Hello Folks...

Just had a thought and wanted to find out if there are any already or if you all seem to think that this will be a nice utility as well...

I think, its quite common for all of us to check an SMS as soon as it arrives ( even though we are driving )...and at many times, we find that its just an SMS from the service provider or some stupid advertising..

If we can have an utility that will replace the default SMS ringtone notification and rather play something like...

"You have a SMS from : " - played from wave file

and then following that, the name of the person ( from contacts )

Now, i do understand, text-to-speech is not yet available for smartphones, but I will be happy to have the person's name said using the "voice tag" attached for that person ...

OR

in a funny but easier way, read out the name, letter by letter ! ( by having a set of small wav files for the alphabet set )

And , if someone is able to develop an utility , another key feature that is a MUST...

is to be able to stop the ringtone, when a key is pressed !!!

Pour in your thoughts and suggestions...

I'm pretty sure you can do this with SMS Notify

You can assign different SMS tones per contact, so you can record something like "SMS from Fred", "SMS from Joe" and assign them to Fred and Joe respectively.

Text to speech is available for smartphones.

Fonix Voicedial will recognise speech and read back contact names.

Cyberon Voicecommander will recognise speech (not as well as Fonix, IMO) but will also read out SMS messages etc.
