Guest Aonz Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 From a website called Orange SPV Smartphone Stuff Hey - I was driving .. errmm.. I mean ... walking back from work last night with the headset plugged in and the phone rang... Yes - that's it. But read it again - the PHONE ITSELF actually rang. Both the phone AND the earpiece played the WAV file at the same time. Since when did THAT get fixed ? I haven't seen an update come down, unless Orange auto-updated it when I wasn't looking ? Either that or I didn't have the headset plugged in properly. (For those who don't know, the SPV played the "ringing" sound through the headphones - AND ONLY the headphones when the headset was plugged in previously).. Robin Webb has emailed me - he said... I can confirm that the phone now rings when headset is plugged in. Also, I used to have a "Voice Tags" menu option that has vanished. If they are doing updates - how/when are they doing them? Anyone else ? I think there must be an auto-updater or something - I'm sure someone mentioned that they'd spotted Orange Auto or something when browsing the phone. Perhaps it takes the same line as the Windows 2000 Auto-Update feature ? Who knows? Sky digi-boxes can call home, so why shouldn't the SPV ? ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Here's a test if you've got the update... Lock the keypad - does the phone still light up when you press a key? Also, go to Settings -> About, is your software version 1.1.6.0 / 3.0.12255.0 ? This is the original version. P
Guest hardysmith Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 Voice tags was on my phone and now it's gone, following a mysterious overnight reset, it vanished. The software ROM versions remain the same. Conclusion : Orange are doing sly bug fixes over the air without changing version history. Also, I had lots of lockups...and now none.
Guest Deemon Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 i had lockups...oh wait...i still have lockups... seriously..just checked....no updates..can they actually secretly update the phone ? i wouldnt of though they would be allowed to do that without your consent
Guest Aonz Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 Sky Digital do it, by sending software updates over the air and u don't get a choice although you own the digital receiver. sorry bout the editing spelling mistake
Guest Deemon Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 thats very true, well i hope that I get this little upgrade to stop my phone hanging every half hour or so...
Guest muude Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I've got 1.1.6.8.... When the keypad is locked and I press a key, it still lights up... I'm confused...
Guest HelloDave Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I don't have a voice dial option anymore either, and I have to say I haven't noticed the phone locking up recently, but that could just be luck! Software version still the same. Sly sods... ;)
Guest rcraswell Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 You're not getting any "secret" or "sly" updates. When you get an update, you'll know about it. The updater throws up a big message box that tells you to plug into AC power and the phone will reboot a few times and fireworks will go off and a parade will pass down the street outside your door.
Guest davem1919 Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 So the update wont be out until november the 5th lol ;) just typical of Orange
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 MUUDE - the last digital of the software version is your region code. .0 = UK .8 = DK etc. etc. P
