Backlight stays on Full during WMA playback

i have posted something along these lines to no avail but nevertheless here goes nothing...

basically the backlight stays on full brightness during WMA playback. this is not true for mp3 playback as the screen fades and switches off at the correct time (as per power management settings)

i am using WMP9, I have tried betaplayer but it does not play WMAs too well (i.e. not at all)

the backlight stays on during the entire duration of playback.

incidentaly the WMP skin is also absent during WMA playback but returns instantly for mp3 playback. the functonality still exists with a blank screen with the outline of media player visible.

Is this a common problem?

(please do not say "convert all your files to mp3" this is beside the point)

am i missing something?
