what programs i need to install so i can connect correct?

What do you want to use the GPS unit for? car travel or walking etc?

There are a few applications around like TomTom which would not be ideal for you as you already own a GPS unit and TomTom is only sold with a unit so you would end up with two devices.

It may be worth trying CoPilot but with both of these apps they are not cheap so it all depends on how much you want to spend.
