Guest hari-bhari Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 hey guys, i just got an smt5600 which i then unlocked so i could use it with t-mobile. ive been using it for a day and its awesome, but i had some questions: 1) I know firmware upgrades are available, where can I get them, and are they safe to install? Will it ruin my unlocking? 2) I have played mp3s in windows media player, but I can't seem to set it as my ringtone because the settings option only looks in the windows folder, and I don't have enough space to put an mp3 there. I only have space in the storage area, but I cant get it to choose a tone from there. What can I do? 3) Is there a good site for free games and stuff? Do they make 3d games for our phone? 4) I had an outlook email with attachments, but it seems like they werent sent to my phone. Can you set the phone to download attachments with the email messages as well? 5) Can I set individual ringtones for each specific people, and if so, how? 6) Is there any way to get rid of all the mMode and AT&T crap on my phone. I dont like that it says mMode when booting and AT&T wireless when making a call... 7) How can I copy all the contacts from my SIM card to my phone, and then have the phonebook not look through the SIM card when searching (so each entry doesnt show up twice). Also, is there any way to keep a running backup of my phone contacts on my pc, without my pc contacts also transferring over onto my phone? Sorry for all the stupid questions, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Welcome to the site ;) The only public ROM upgrade available to anyone is by Orange the other upgrades by IMATE and QTEK are only available to owners of their actual handsets. You cannot use MP3 as a ringtone they have to be wma, midi or wav format. There are a few free games around but nothing special in 3d for free apart but Doom is available and Quake has been tried before. You have to edit each contact to select a custom ringtone. You cannot get rid of mmode but some of the skins used in calls etc can be changed, there are homescreens that do this for you or you can edit these images yourself with a bit of knowhow. Show contacts on SIM is selected in Settings\Phone\Call Options as for copying contacts from SIM to phone go to the Accessories folder and select SIM Manager. Finally a good place for you to go is the FAQ section of the site, there is a post that will help First 48 Hours with a Smartphone

See this page for a list of site to get Applications, both free and for purchase. http://webpages.charter.net/dchester/MPx220/Apps.htm 5) Can I set individual ringtones for each specific people, and if so, how?Yes, if you have copied the contact from the SIM card to the phone. When you go into Contacts and edit the Contact, there is a field for the Ringtone. 6) Is there any way to get rid of all the mMode and AT&T crap on my phone. I dont like that it says mMode when booting and AT&T wireless when making a call... I'm sure there is, but I have a Cingular braded phone, so I don;t know exactly what you have currently. In any case scroll through this page with a list of registry keys, and find the registry edit for the Startup and Shutdown sounds & Bitmaps and try that. 7) How can I copy all the contacts from my SIM card to my phone, and then have the phonebook not look through the SIM card when searching (so each entry doesnt show up twice). Also, is there any way to keep a running backup of my phone contacts on my pc, without my pc contacts also transferring over onto my phone?I don't know if the AT&T branded phones came with a SIM manager (Cingular's did not). To backup your contacts, install ActiveSync on your PC, and your Contacts can be Synced with Microsoft Outlook. To keep from displaying the SIM contacts, go into Settings > Phone > Call Options and uncheck the Show SIM Contacts. Sorry for all the stupid questions, any help would be greatly appreciated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In addition to the first 48 hours page, possibly my website will be some use to you as well.
