Guest mt50 Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 hi, it's time for me to get a new phone i currently have a SX1(S60) and love it for the fact it has great games and can play movies. before that i've had a nokia 6230(sold after about 1 month) and a SPV(great phone but i broke it. so now my mate has got a P900 and i think it's cool if a little big. for the past month i've been looking at the imate jam but now it's time to oder i'm stuck the imate looks great and everything but whats it really like(main things for me are- games, movies, mp3s internet and ebooks) which phone would i be best going for? the p910i looks good as it's got a keypad whereas the imate is touchscreen only. whats the battery life on both like? what cool apps are there for the imate what games are good? any good emulators out there? thanks
Guest MitchellO Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I saw a P910 the other day in the shops and compared it with my Mini. Here is what I got: * P910 is bigger * P910 has a lower screen res, and the screen isn't as bright It is also more limited by its OS, and uses expensive MS Duo cards compared with SD. You can't add wifi to it (again no SD slot). It costs more for a phone that isn't as good. Not sure about battery life on P910. My Mini gets excellent battery life. I typically get 5hrs of heavy use out of it each day (music, email, msn, wifi sd, bt, gprs, phone calls, sometimes video, games) and still have over 25% battery left. For email and web surfing it is great over both WiFi and GPRS (although WiFi is faster and MUCH cheaper). MSN is great as well, using the PhonePad input method you can use the device one handed while walking: Get the iMate JAM!! (or other variant)
Guest andysalmon Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I had a P900 with P910 firmware on it, and now have an MDA Compact so feel qualified to answer. The battery on the P910 will eat the compact. We are talking up to a week of use! The screen has a lower res, but is bigger. The screen in use is just as good as the Compact. It is about 1/2" bigger than the Compact that's all. I prefer the real keypad to the Compact but for me the Compact wins hands down. As it's M$, software both apps and games are plentiful and either free or very cheap. Symbian is expensive and limited in availibility. It can use wi fi, P910 uses expensive Sony Memory sticks. The compact has a better calendar and definately better synching. Emulators are avilable for both, but for what you've said the Imate will be a better bet. The P910 is a better phone, the Imate is a better all rounder. I miss the P910 but the compact is just better.
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I doubt anybody on a JAM Enthusiast forum is gonna tell you to go for the Sony !!
Guest andysalmon Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005  The ONLY thing that won me over for the Jam was the software availability- nothing else. If the symbian software was as available and cheap, I would have stayed with SE...but it's not :|
Guest mt50 Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 I doubt anybody on a JAM Enthusiast forum is gonna tell you to go for the Sony !! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thats why i asked because i really really want to go for the imate. it's just something about the p910 that draws me to it(i don't know what it is) and andy have you tried any emulators on the imate and p910? my mate has a picodrive(iirc) emulator for the p910 and he says when you close the keypad the app shuts so you can't control the games ;) what are they like on the imate? do ps1 games work? thanks
Guest Perfectionist Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Get hold of Morph Gear - it emulates GB, GBA, NES, SNES etc etc - I dont think I have seen an app that lets you play PlayStation games as yet though ;)
Guest andysalmon Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Sorry, don't use emulators at all. Perhaps post a new topic?
