device lock / password function

Anybody know of a way to properly lock the smartphone after a set period? Is there a third party program or hack?

I tried the device lock feature in the phone and set it to 60 minutes but the phone still locks itself shortly after closing the cover instead of waiting 60 minutes. Annoying.
