Guest rizzles Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Hi i just got my MDA and am very happy with it but have a couple of Q's 1. When i get a text it seems to play the message alert at a very low volume even though my ringtone plays ok 2. Is there a program like the smartease one on smartphones that keeps your gprs connected? thanks in advance
Guest MitchellO Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Have you got your system volume turned up?
Guest rizzles Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Yeah that done the trick. Seems a bit stupid though that the system volume has to be up. Dontreally want the system volume up!
Guest jfran Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Try changing the notification sound to something that seems louder to see if it makes a difference. And regarding your second question, dont really see the need as gprs connection should take only a few seconds anyway rgds jim
Guest MitchellO Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Yeah, it is weird that it is tied to the system volume, but oh well! Regarding the GPRS, my connection stays active until i disconnect it. I can turn off the device, and it remains active. I can also leave Messaging open to check emails every few minutes and MSN Messenger logged in while the device is off. It alerts me via vibrate/alarm if i get a message or contact comes online. Works great!!
Guest En_croute Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 What's your daily GPRS usage to keep messenger running ? (and how many messages do you get per day!)
Guest rizzles Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 hmmm mine seems to keep disconnectinng and connecting. Had an app on my c500 that made sure it was always connected. really need this as i have msn on 24 hours a day
Guest MitchellO Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Mine does it out-of-the-box, but this software (see attached) has an option for it. Give it a try. Works fine. Also, with MSN continuously running, Messaging checking email every 5mins, checking PPC Thoughts once or twice, and chatting for maybe 20-30mins during the day, about 600kb. That also includes maybe 10-15 emails (max 5kb of headers).

Guest amuneer Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I just ordered my i-mate jam free on £23/month tarrif on T-Mobile from Easysold.co.uk. It was the cheapest I could find as scancom charge £50+vat for the same deal. Can't wait for it to show up.

Guest MitchellO Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 A couple of dollars a day. Remember I don't use it every day. Only use it like that about 3 days per week. Other days I may only use 300kb or none at all.
Guest MitchellO Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Great! Have fun with it. Its just like having a blackberry, only better!!
Guest En_croute Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I bought a 3mb GPRS bundle today and downloaded 20-25 e-mails (2k header only) and had Messenger on for 3 hours (10 messages either way max) and I've used nearly a meg already. What else could be using GPRS, as this dosen't add up - or is messenger intensive on GPRS ?
Guest jfran Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Instead of checking for mails every 5mins etc, why not have alwaysonmail its push email, data is compressed hence less data charges n fast delivery... I get an average of 20 - 30 emails daily, it truncates those larger than 10k, and allows filters etc average data transfer per month just on emails is slightly above 1MB. The only downfall is that with this you can only have 1 email account attached to the service unlike with blackberry web accounts you can have up to 10 pop accounts added. Almost forgot, but you get a 2 month free trial as well. Hope that helps Jim

Guest MitchellO Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Never had a prob with either, as in my first post: with MSN continuously running, Messaging checking email every 5mins, checking PPC Thoughts once or twice, and chatting for maybe 20-30mins during the day, about 600kb. That also includes maybe 10-15 emails (max 5kb of headers) Not had a problem with heavy data use from running continuously.
