Guest muddy250 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Hi Guys, My GPRS active icon keeps popping up. It looks like something is trying to place a GPRS call every 30 seconds or so. If I change the network connections I get an error message saying 'unable to place call' . Anyone else had this happen? Called orange and they are going to remove gprs from the phone for 24 hours then re-activate it to see if that resets things. Meantime I'm concerned that my phone is racking up a big data bill! ;) Chris
Guest squall Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 what apps have you installed recently? cellid? sounds like something wants to connect to the net.
Guest squall Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 ota sites still down, doubt it will be that ;)
Guest muddy250 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 what apps have you installed recently? cellid? sounds like something wants to connect to the net. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did try cellid but my phone is locked so downloaded the orange registry software from the developer site. Have uninstalled them but it still tries to connect. Also ran Smarthiker and that's when I first noticed it trying to connect. Despite taking them all out it's still trying!
Guest muddy250 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 ota sites still down, doubt it will be that ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did finally get past the unlocking sites inability to recognise the IMEI and was waiting for an unlock message which never came BUT thought that would be incoming rather than outgoing,
Guest squall Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 the ota site does need a gprs connection, but im in the same boat, it finally recoginised my imei but no unlock was sent and now the sites back to not recognising imei. you could ask orange to disable gprs all togther if you dont use it

Have stripped out everything that didn't come with the phone but it still tries! It's really hacking me off now  How do you hard reset these things?
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Whats that 'cellid' app? EDIT: You know why I asked about the app's name? If you have used CellTrack (a cell triangulation app), you may have left it to connect to onlineDB. Check your registry: HKCU\Software\SPV-Developers\CellTrack\Config then hit Values (left soft key) You'll see this: Click on 'UseDB' . If Value data = 0, app wont connect to onlineDB, thus wont use GPRS. If Value data = 1 , the opposite happens. Do you still have these registry entries?

Have spoken to tech support at orange who advised me to reset to factory defaults which I'm just doing now. Fingers are crossed!
Guest muddy250 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Best of luck then ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The hard reset worked. The dread gprs is no more. Unfortunately neither is my GPS connection to tomtom...ah well, here we go again!

Guest martin Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Too late but I would have said that it could be an MMS message trying to get through but can't save to the phone. Usually you can set MMS settings to manual instead of automatic and see if you get an SMS stating that an MMS message is ready for manual download.

It's all back up and running after the hard reset though so I'm happy again! ;)
Guest deethe Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 i had a similar problem... look under \messaging\media messages\menu-options\account setup\media messages then set the option for polling connections to manual hope that helps if it returns.
