Guest stuffedtiger79 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 i migrated from to smartphone from palm... as a palm user, i had a lot of databases on my palm, from mobiledb... as .pdb files. i would really like to be able to view these in my mpx220, unfortunately... handmark has no plans to release a smartphone version of mobiledb. can you guys suggest what would be the best way to view these databases in my smartphone. maybe i can convert them to some other format and use a different viewer... or maybe there is some other viewer for smartphone that can view these files. i searched around but i couldnt find anything. hope someone here can help me.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 *pdb files? iSilo can read them. The PPC pdb files loads on the deivce using iSilo for MS-Smartphone. http://www.isilo.com/download/index.htm Welcome to MoDaCo. ;)
Guest stuffedtiger79 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 i tried isilo... it opened the file but the data was junk. there were all weird characters and square boxes... like when it doesnt recognize the font. if it is not too much trouble, can you go to www.mobiledb.com, download any random database, and see if it works with isilo. maybe i am doing something wrong, or i have to change some setting in isilo... not sure. any help would be very much appreciated. there are a lot of databases, that are invaluable to me, i could view them on my palm-os before, that i am now unable to view.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Same here. Im also getting those boxes with the palm pdb files. ;) Will mobiledn allow you to download the PPC counterparts of your files? The Pocket PC pdb files works on iSilo.
Guest stuffedtiger79 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 mobiledb has only one type of file... pdb... it is supposed to work with both ppc and palm. they dont have seperate type of files for palm and ppc. i hope that someone can identify a way to make these files viewable on smartphone. Same here. Im also getting those boxes with the palm pdb files. ;) Will mobiledn allow you to download the PPC counterparts of your files? The Pocket PC pdb files works on iSilo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 But the PPC files loads on both the phone and PC (using iSilo for Windows32). I still get squares with the palm DB even with the desktop viewer. Palm DB encoding problem or simply incompatibility?
Guest stuffedtiger79 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 anything new? any way to convert the mobiledb pdb files to a viewable format?
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Havent figured out a way. ;)
Guest BeerLover Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I don't wan't to get your hopes up, I think I may have a solution but I can't believe none of the mobile-gods on this site know about this. Havent figured out a way. ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Viewing pdb files?? BeerLover to the rescue. I once found a *.pdb file that was titled "10,000 drinks combinations" I did not sleep, I did not eat, I did not drink untill I finally found the program that could use it. I now have TONS of *.pdb files on my phone, they all come from Town Compass. The program to view them (wich is free, you'll be pleased to know!!) can be downloaded from their web site: http://www.pocketdirectory.com/software/pr...x?idProduct=505 It's great, I have a list of 12,000 reciepies on my phone, among other things. Please don't thank me, this web site has given me so much.
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Hi BeerLover, Welcome to MoDaCo I think stuffedtiger was after reading palm pdb files using iSilo for Windows Smartphone. ;) Town compass have their own reader for their pdb files.
