Guest tmb5 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 I find the flashing green reception LED really irritating. Does anyone know how to turn it off, or make it constant?
Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 The flashing light serves a purpose: a signal indicator. Try to switch on flight mode and see what happens. ;)
Guest tmb5 Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Problem is that I leave my phone by my head at night so the alarm can wake me. That little green light becomes very bright and annoying when there's no other light in the room! I don't really need a signal indicator as I just check the phone if I want to know what the signal is. I think the blue light's pretty cool, the one for bluetooth. I wonder if there's a way to keep that always on.

I think we need an application to control the led. I used to have one on my Treo600 and it could be set to one of three colours, solid, slow and fast blink for any number of events. I'd like to be able to set off, solid, flash and either green or blue for any combination of signal on/off, bluetooth on/off, message waiting, etc.

By default, blue LED is much brighter than green. The blue LED has the intensity to light up the bedroom ceiling at night. So, I had the same issue - but I solved it by leaving the phone keypad down on my bedside cabinet. Worked a treat. R

Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 You can also cover the LED with a black electrical tape, perfect for the black C500. ;)
Guest jporch316 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I found that if you use the little screwdrivers out of Christmas crackers, you can use the flat head one to smash the bulb in. No more flashing problems !!

Guest [email protected] Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 As far as i know the green flash indicates signal the blue led indicates bluetooth active as the bluetooth led is brighter can you not disable bluetooth
Guest tmb5 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 If you turn off Bluetooth, the green led is still flashing. My original question wasn't about the blue one anyway. I think turning the phone over and adding a black bit of tape are all solutions. However its kind of avoiding the problem instead of solving it. It would be cool if a program could allow the use to alter the way the lights activated. I'm guessing that this would involve altering some of the phone OS, therefore a bit ambitious. Also the blue led lights when Bluetooth is turned on. It isn't an indicator of whether it is connected to anything. My old T68i used to light up constant blue when connected, and flashing when just turned on. This I think is a better use of the lights. The green led flashes when the phone has signal. This doesn't mean you can make a call as it might have crappy signal, therefore I think it is a useless indicator. Anyway most people look at how many bars reception they have before making a call, they don't look at the green led.
Guest tmb5 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 One more time when that led is irritating is when I'm watching a movie on the phone. i have to put a piece of bluetac over the led otherwise it's a major distraction!
Guest spvdk Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I have to agree that the LEDs on most phones are a wasted opportunity. Imagine all the stuff it could be used for, if only we were able to control it... Anyway, unless you need to receive calls or messages while you sleep, you can just enter flight mode and get rid of that blinking. The alarm will still work.
Guest brykins Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Imagine all the stuff it could be used for, if only we were able to control it... It *must* be controllable....I used to have an app on my Treo600 that did exactly what we ar asking. I know that the OS is different, etc, but I am sure that a decent programmer could do it....it's just whether anyone would want to pay for it!
