Guest pisquee Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 any1 know how to install a new IMEI number? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Changing the IMEI number of a cell phone is illegal, so I wuldn't go asking that kind of question here, and wouldn't encourage anyone to give an answer.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 It also carries a 5 year imprisonment term in the UK for even owning the software to do this. There is no valid reason for changing the IMEI and the only reasons for doing it is if the phone is stolen or has been blocked by the networks when the bills have not been paid etc.

Guest nimruth Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Illegal my ass.. I own the phone.. I paid for it with cash.. TGherefore I decide what software to run on it and how the system is configured. NOBODY has anything to say about what information or data is stored on MY cellphone. If I choose to change anything on MY hardware, I am free to do so as it belongs to me... Nowhere in the law does it say that when a product is purchased, that the manufacturer has any legal grounds to procecute you for doing something with an apparatus that belongs to you.. Changing your imei is completely legal, and scaring people by stating these rediculous claims is pathetic.. You are free to modify any hardware you have purchased in any way you see fit.. you might loose your warranty, but it is not illegal.. If you live in a country where they have made this illegal you should think about emigration.. Who would allow the government anything to say about your own posessions? I sense a culture of fear here..
Guest squall Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 sense what you like, in the uk It is illegal in the uk and t carries very heavy sentences. Still if you want to go on being ignorant go ahead and try to change your imei, when you get caught you will be prosecuted as a criminal regardless if you believe its your right or not. oh and before you come back and say "what ever" try doing some research. http://www.parliament.the-stationery-offic...en/02080x--.htm
Guest nimruth Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Did it ever cross your mind that I do not live in the UK? And that I don`t give a rat`s ass about what insane laws you have there ? Over here, in Holland, we are not that afraid of big cooperations.. The only reason for your remarks is that you have an personal intrest in these topics..
Guest squall Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Regardless of where you live you were giving advice to members of this forum, most of who do live in the uk, and most of who, if they did what you suggested would go to prison. My only interest is giving advice to the members of the communitee. afraid of big cooperations? we are talking about the law in the uk here, it has nothing to do with the network. Please remember networks such as orange dont approve of sim unlocking there handsets (unless you pay them to do it), yet you can still find information on how to do it on modaco. Your arguments dont add up im afraid. I dont believe theres any more to be said in this topic. Topic locked

I think you need to get your facts right before ranting off on one. As mentioned before the only reasons for changing the imei is if the phone has been blacklisted due to being stolen or bills not being paid. As for Dutch law this was dug up thanks to google. Tackling mobile phone theft An estimated 20,000 mobile phones are stolen every month. This crime is often accompanied by mugging, which undermines the public‘s sense of safety. Interfering with an IMEI number is a criminal offence underarticle 225, or alternatively article 219 of the Criminal Code. The following measures are planned for the short term:1.The Ministers of Justice and Economic Affairs will meet with the Chief Executive Officers of the operatorsand make agreements on tackling this problem. They will remind the operators of their social responsibilityand emphasise that the problem is a priority for the government. The aim of the meeting is also to set up atask force to implement the IMEI database in the Netherlands.2.The need to intensify efforts to tackle mobile phone theft will be stressed at European level in order toestablish a cohesive system within Europe to prevent the use of stolen phones abroad.3.To gain a clearer picture of the scope of the problem at national and regional level, the possibility ofintroducing a police registration system for stolen mobile phones will be studied. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So to summon up your statement it looks like "your ass" is ilegal ;)
