Guest mossywell Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 (edited) We're all aware (I hope) by now that if you apply the new French ROM update on a phone that is not SIM unlocked, it is not possible to back to the UK ROM. That got me thinking (a dangerous thing)... If the French ROM has nevertheless been applied to a C500 that is not SIM unlocked: (EDIT: i.e. SIM locked:) 1. If the phone is SIM unlocked after the French ROM update (e.g by getting a genuine SIM unlock code from Orange), will it then be possible to go back to older non-French ROMs? 2. Will it be possible to upgrade to a new French ROM when it comes out? I.e., is the phone simply tied into French ROMs, or does it prevent any future updates, even to French ROMs? 3. Has anyone tried going from the new French ROM back to an old French ROM? 4. The big one: When the ROM update is released on Orange UK, will it be possible to go back to the older UK ROMs if the phone is not SIM unlocked? I'm guessing here that it won't be possible to go back to old French ROMs. I'd be interested to hear what people, especially Florin_m, think (theory or practice)? 8) Edited April 25, 2005 by mossywell
Guest hb88xx Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I went from a sim unlocked UK rom to the new french and went back to the previous french one!!
Guest mossywell Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I went from a sim unlocked UK rom to the new french and went back to the previous french one!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was sim unlocked? In that situation, you can AFAIK go from any to any ROM. What I was really interested in was for those phones that are SIM locked? Reason is that we all know that going from the older UK ROM to the new French ROM is generally described as a dead-end upgrade. But... surely this will also be the same for the imminent UK ROM which will also be a dead-end upgrade? (I'm really asking what the options are once the upgrade is done whether it's French or UK.)
