Guest pjam001 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Is their any software that allows you to use a bt headset to talk to your c500 and it write and send a text message? I know it sounds far fetched but should be possible. Cheers
Guest argh Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I don't think so. Cyberon Voice Commander will read out SMS messages, appointments etc. though, as well as start applications via voice, voice dial etc.

Cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> lol - i have a voice to text app on my PC called dragon naturally speaking..... the program itself is hundreds of MB in size, and the user files which are made when you train it to learn your voice are getting close to the size. In short - the processing power and the basic size of whats required to recognise speach is so big i doubt such a thing is possible on a mobile device. . . . . which is a shame because i was thinking the other day how useful that'd be! But hey i hope someone proves me wrong!
Guest bretto Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 This should be all part of the service from the telco/provider. I used to work for a company that devleoped next gen phone systems for both private and telco companies. Voice recognition and text to speech are pretty easy these days. A couple of years ago the whole unified messaging thing started to take off then just seamed to disolve. We had systems that could take voice in and output to anything. Fax, text, email, sms, and visa versa. even convert from english to chinese! Telcos have the abilty to at the very least record your message and shoot it out as an mms. But they have also had the ability to do everything else for ages too and very cheaply. They could have pluged one of our systems in for a couple of hundred thou AU and had it running in less than an hour. Maybe its supply and demand. No one has demanded it so telcos dont supply it ;)
Guest Disco Stu Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 MS are supposedly adapting Voice Command for Smartphones. Although the PPC version doesn't have the SMS function I wouldn't have thought it was too difficult to include in future releases.
Guest MadduckUK Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 "Dragon Systems' NaturallySpeaking requires a Pentium/133MHz processor or higher, 32MB of RAM, and 180MB of hard disk space" OK So it isnt the latest or greatest.. but from this example you can see that as voice recognition software has been around so long there was once a time that the software "should" have been able to run comfortably on todays high-end smartphones. since then of course weve seen the usual bloatware/ diminishing returns effect. but i think stripped-down and optimized voice recognition software would work very well. just needs someone to make it now!
