I have a non-USA SP3i with WMP9.

My PC is Windows XP with WMP10

Audio tracks ripped from CD sync across no problem.

However, tracks downloaded from MSN Music will not transfer successfully. Instead I get the message "The license for this file cannot be found. Use Media Player on your PC to copy the file to your device again."

No amount of re-acquiring the license or different types of copying will help. Even using Betaplayer results in a corrupted sound.

The only way round this is to burn the dowloaded tracks to a CD, recopy them to the library and then add them to the SP3i.

This is a royal pain in the a** which I assume will only go away when Imate get round to issuing a new ROM with mobile WMP10.

Anyone any clues?

I don't know anything about msn music. - Napster on the other hand offer a "napster to go" service which allows you to play them on devices which support a certain licence like windows mobile media player 10

I would check with msn what you are licenced to do with the files. and what devices are compatible - i think WMP10 is your answer

hope that makes sense - and its of some help

Are you transferring the songs via WMP10 or are you using File Explorer?

With DRM content you must transfer it via WMP10. If that is not it, delete the .hds file on the storage card and transfer it again (as long as you don't have any other DRM content on the storage card).

Thanks for your help.

I was transferring via WMP 10 (on my PC),

I will happily try deleting the .hds file but, bearing in mind I only have WMP9 on my mobile phone, I still think I need to wait for WMP10 mobile version.

Having said that the fact that it seems to be just me that is having this problem makes me think my phone or my PC could be messed up.

d66 - are you using WMP10 on your PC?

Perhaps the .hds solution might help. Or save to mini-sd rather than phone or vice versa.

Failing that I suggest we contact msn music UK

bneufeld - where exactly is the .hds file? It is not in the same location as the songs.

At the moment I am just using "storage" on the phone, as I am still waiting for delivery of 1gb mini-sd card. (thats another story!)

I have a SDA Music w/ WMP10 and the license store is kept as an .hds file in the WMDRM folder. I'm not sure if an .hds file will be on C500 w/ WMP9. If it is not look for DRMv1PM.lic in the root. The easiest thing to do is try a different storage card.

...or, wait till Orange releases an update w/ WMP10.

Thanks - there is a DRMv1PM.lic file and I will try deleting that. (I am using storage on the phone rather than a stoage card)

I am not sure if WMP10 on the mobile will help as d66 is reporting problems with the new French ROM (see above)

Is anyone else having problems with msn Music or other downloaded tracks?

Yup i am according to microsoft documentation it won't work at all if you just save it to sd card without the phone as it woun't transfer over the required keys to play the file

This is all very confusing

I have an SP3i, no SD card and WMP9. Copying via WMP10 on the PC to storage on the SP3i does not work, even after I deleted the DRMv1PM.lic file.

I also have an MPX200 with an SD card and WMP9. Copying the files to the SD card does work, but not if copied to the phone's storage.

I hope that my long awaited 1gb mini sd file will save the day.

Go figure!
