Hiya,

I've searched the forums and seen a couple of references to this error by users with others phones and stuff however I never seemed to find a conclusive answer or solution.

Basically, I've got an unllocked C500, and ocasionaly I see this "Unable to answer call" message when trying to Accept the call. I have to say I've had my phone about 4 months and I've only seen the error message 3 or 4 times, but all occurances have been in the last month and I'm worried it's going to become more and more common.

I've a friend with the C500 who says it started on his phone and now is happenning almost 1 in 4 calls and I don't want that on mine!!

The few times it has happenned haven't followed any pattern - I'm never out of reception area, and I know it's happenned at least once both with and without my bluetooth headset connected.

Any ideas would be very helpful,

- Simon

When I call my mobile, it rings for 20 seconds before diverting to voicemail. However, there is a 2 second delay (I timed it!) between hanging up and the phone stopping ringing. Therefore, for 2 seconds out of the 20 the phone is ringing but no one is on the other end because it's gone to voicemail or they've hung up. I make that 1 in 10, which means that in 1 in 10 calls, assuming I answer the phone at a random time in the 20 seconds (not a good statistical assumption, but it'll have to do), I'll get an error relating to being unable to connect to the caller.

You say 1 in 4? I suggest actually measuring it to see if it really is that often. Bear in mind that in general, people only remember the bad things (sadly), so it might apear to happen more often than it really does. If it is happening that often, you might have a phone fault.

Okay, I'll have to ask my friend. I certainly conceed that that is what it could be in my case. I've just done a test like you, letting it go to voicemail, and if I try to answer immediately when I hear the voicey kick in on my landline that is the exact error message I get.

Thanks!

Dont forget some ringtones start later than the phone call, especially if you use .wav or .mp3 ringtones and you have sevral apps open. It will seem like the call hasnt been ringing long - but there is a delay before the handset rings - if you dont answer it in time you will get that error.

Also - the error can happen if the other person hangs up as your handset will keep the ring tone going even though the caller has hung up.

Dont know if i explained that right - my brain is a little fried today

Great work guys, in address the problems. I had the same problem a few times and my other SMT 5600 actually broke and I was getting worried this one would. Problem is I live in canada so its a big hassel when I sent it to America to get fixed.. now Rogers Wireless is carrying the phone here too.. a bit pricy though!
