Rom Guidance

Please can some1 just clarify to me what rom i should be using? i have a c500 and it's still with the rom as i bought it 4.21.1088. Should i update it and if so how? this new update thats meant to be coming out, will i be able to install it stright away and if so where will that be available from?

Also please could some1 actually tell me why every1 seems so excited bout the new update, what will it actually add to the phone.
