Guest flashman314 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Hi all, Just got my spv500, im happy with it but when i record a video clip, the audio is really really low and i cannot find an option anywhere to increase the sound - is this because the mic is not very good or is there some setting im missing? When I play files in sp player the volume bar at the top is at max and still audio level is rubbish. I have seen on other posts that there is a hissing issue, it doesnt seem to be that however. Sorry is this is an already well discussed topic, i couldnt find any info on this in the forum. cheers1 James.
Guest martin Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Is the audio low for you own voice or just for those voices at a distance ?
Guest flashman314 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 Is the audio low for you own voice or just for those voices at a distance ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yeah, my voice (or whoever is in front of the phone) is fine, whatever is in front, even if close is very very low, barely audible. James.
Guest martin Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I don't record too much from my phone but I would probably try setting the encoder to Motion-JPEG AVI which uses standard PCM audio. You could then use video encoding software on the PC to re-encode the AVI file and increase the volume at the same time. The quality of audio will depend on how much information is contained in the original PCM coding but it might be worth trying.
Guest flashman314 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 but surely this cannot be normal? So basically it is impossible to playback a vid clip on the phone with decent audio? For me, im gonna playback vids on the phone only, so if this is a characterisitic of the phone please tell me now, because i will need to send it back ASAP. thanks, James.
Guest martin Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 TBH I don't think any mobile phone will be that great at picking up distant sounds in an audio/video recording :?: You would be better off buying a video camera with larger microphone if you are serious about recordings. My C500 audio is OK but then I don't expect too much from it.
Guest flashman314 Posted April 27, 2005 Report Posted April 27, 2005 I see what you are saying, but now im wondering if yours is maybe not as bad as mine. Ive tested it all day and you cannot hear what the hell a person is saying even if they are standing close by, you have to press your ear to the phone to actually hear what they are saying. My old sonmy ericsson k500i had crystal clear audio with vid clips, and thats an old piece of junk! I would be interested to hear as much info as possible on this so I can judge whether I have a faulty phone or if its just a big downside to the c500. I just cannot beleive that audio would be so low! Its interesting to note that when i play a vid clip that i have received from a friend etc, the sound is booming, therefore is this a problem with the mic on the phone?? please help me everyone, i only have a few days to send it back. James. p.s. thanks for your help so far Martin.
Guest martin Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Ahhh, OK maybe your phone is faulty then. If I start recording video and then hold the phone away from myself at arms length then I can hear my voice clearly on playback. It's not particularly load but easily understandable. I expect I could record a conversation from people a few feet away. It's about the same as when using speakerphone where I could put my phone a couple of feet away from me and still have a conversation to the person on the other end. I might have to speak a bit louder though. I don't know if that helps.
Guest argh Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Isn't the problem that the microphone is just the regular phone microphone and is facing towards the person filming, not the things being filmed?
Guest martin Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Isn't the problem that the microphone is just the regular phone microphone and is facing towards the person filming, not the things being filmed? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Not sure because I can still record and hear my voice regardless of which way the phone is facing. In fact I didn't seem to notice much difference in volume either way. Maybe someone else can test this.
Guest flashman314 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 hmm... im still not sure guys. Can anyone else provide some more info? thanks. James.
Guest jporch316 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Is you speaker volume up full (up down button on side of phone)
Guest wimpydragon Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 The playback volume gets affected by other players installed on the phone. If I play MP3s in WMP but have previously had the volume lowered in Betaplayer, the volume will be "capped" in WMP
Guest flashman314 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Yes my speaker volume is at max. Basically guys, does your phone not have this issue, if it doesnt my phone is clearly faulty. thanks again everyone, James.
Guest flashman314 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 please, can as many people as possible tell me what the audio is like when they record videos. Is the sound very low for anyone in front of the camera (so people in the video) and ok for people behind the camera? please help! James.
Guest argh Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 The recorded sound on my C500 with mp4 video encoding is very poor and not much use except to hear what I am saying. I haven't tried other formats to compare, but I wouldn't expect them to be any better.
Guest Driekus Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 (edited) In my vids I can quite clearly hear people a few feet away, even with a lot of background noise. I've had a problem with my audio; it tended to go "slower" than the video, so at the end of the video, I still had a lot of audio left... This problem disappeared after a hard reset. Maybe this would help you too. I'm not sure though. But you better be rather sure it will help you, 'cause it's quite a bitch restoring all your apps and settings afterwards. When I did it, I had my phone for only one week, and even then it was pretty annoying to do. If I had to do it now, man that would be a :-&! Edited April 29, 2005 by Driekus
Guest flashman314 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 thanks for all your views, i decided to get orange to send me a new phone as i am sure that mine was faulty - better to be safe than sorry! Its charging as i type this, hopefully it will be fine. If its the same ill be pissed off as the audio level is well bellow par. thanks again, James.
