Guest mors739 Posted April 28, 2005 Report Posted April 28, 2005 Hi, I've just got myself a Qtek S100 and was wondering if anyone could recommend me the best available ROM at the moment. I've noticed one which apparantly frees up an extra 27MB space but I'm not sure how easy this ROM is to install. Also, does anyone know if Orange care would cover this phone, and if not, if they had any recommendations on another insurer? Thanks!
Guest MitchellO Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 Well you should know that if you do the update to 27Mb ROM, it will void your warranty. If you needed something fixed you'd have to restore the original ROM. The 27MB File Storage ROM is made my a guy known as "anansky" on the XDA-Developers forum. To do it, you need to backup your current ROM to an SD card (using the PC to send commands to the bootloader), then copy the card to the PC. You then use a hex editor to copy the first 416 bytes into the anansky ROM (with the 27Mb file store) so your device recognises the rom. Then it gets written to your SD card, and while in bootloader on the pda, it will let you start the transfer of the new ROM. If you understand none of what i have said, it is not for you. If you make a mistake, you can potentially brick your device. I have tried it once, but it didn't work first time (although it didn't for many), and will have to wait until i get my device back from O2 (because of a broken speaker) before I can try again. I was able to flash my old ROM back on (using the backup), so I could return it.
Guest mors739 Posted April 29, 2005 Report Posted April 29, 2005 OK Thanks. While I have flashed ROMs of previous PDAs I realise that this method is a bit complicated so I don't think I'll risk trying. Cheers
