Caller ID w/ 2003 OS

I see the older OS had problems w/ name and number caller ID showing up on the display screen, and from what I read here they were supposed to be fixed in 2003. However, I have 2003 and 7000+ contacts and rarely do I see the name on the outside display, or even when I flip the phone open. Is there a fix for this?

Plus this thing seems to be slower than hell, is it just because I have so many contacts? And if you're curious why I have so many contacts, I'm a dentist and have all my patients in my phone.
