Hi everybody!

I'm sick and tired of my buggy P900 and after having seen my brother's c500 I have decided to upgrade!

However, I have a couple of questions that I hope some of you can help me with!

1. Can you put your contacts into categories? It's really important to me that I can see all my business contacts separately from my personal ones, and I need to be able to set up new groups. It was awkward doing this on the P900 but possible. I don't remember MS Outlook having a way of doing it, please tell me the C500 can?

2. What is SMS/MMS backup like? Can I copy them off and view them on my PC later? I do quite a lot of business by SMS/MMS messages so need to keep backups. Again, on the P900 it was an almost impossible task...

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site ;)

1, Yes you can but this needs to be done on the PC in Outlook first.

2, There are various SMS apps around like SMS Cool and SMS2mail

as for MMS though I do not know of an app that can back these up at the moment.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum!

You can put your contacts into categories, but from memory there's only about four categories you can put them into - and I've never found a way to add any others. This hasn't proved a problem for me, but if you need to split them more than that it might for you.

As it comes from the box you cannot back up your SMS onto your PC (e-mails you can). However, there are lots of third party applications, and I'm sure most are free, that allow you to do this. In short, it doesn't do it as standard but can do it very, very easily after a few minutes investment.

Good luck with the decision, and please let us know when you join the Windows Smartphone ranks! ;)

Ooops! Too long typing and Awarner beat me to it!

On the categories section, I didn't know you could do it on the PC - I've always amended them on the phone when I needed to. Guess you learn something new every day! ;)

Thanks for the replies!

Shame these manufacturers don't give you this functionality out of the box, seems silly when my old Nokia was easy to backup SMS's from!

Looks like this will be my next phone, just a question of when!

I'm still waiting for a proper phone with integrated GPS, wifi, bluetooth, 3G, GSM, and a 5MP CAMERA!! lol, like the mPX style with full keyboard, just smaller in length/width and lighter... still blinking ages away !

The point of a smartphone is that you can add the functionality you need. If it came with every possible app then it would be very bloated indeed. I don't need to back up my SMSs and would find an app like that a waste of space so I'm glad it doesn't come with it and I'm sure you wouldn't want half the things I've got on my phone.

The C500 is a great phone and very customisable - enjoy ;)
