Guest djpfine Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 I fully charged my SMT 5600 last night, and mid way through today I'm getting a low battery warning. I've been trying to figure out why my battery seems t obe dying so quickly, and I noticed that the mini G on the top right corner of screen is always on, signyfing that I'm constantly connected to T-Mo's GRPS, correct? Should this be the case? Seems to me that GPRS should shut itself off when I'm not browsing/using data to save battery, but the icon remains even after I make a voice call. I saw a FAQ on here that said to press the end key in order to disconnect from GPRS, but that doesn't work. Is there anything I can do?
Guest Confucious Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 With the c500 you can press and hold the action bar and you get an option to disconnect GPRS but that is only with the Orange ROM. For you to disconnect, try putting the phone into flight mode the back to normal mode. This will disconnect GPRS. HTH

HTH <{POST_SNAPBACK}> On the 5600, holding the action key brings me to my IE favorites. I've tried putting it into flight mode and back out, but the little G remains in the top right corner. Still, my battery died halfway through the day on a full night's charge. I might try a hard reset to see if it help. Thanks

Are you sure it's the small "G" that actually signifies being connected, and not the larger "G" in a square that just shows that GPRS is available? If it is the connected symbol, then it's not the action bar that needs to be held down, but the home button...hold that down and you get two options - one for disconnecting GPRS and one for BT setup.

Seems like the C500 tricks of holding down the action bar/home button do not work on the 5600 as they both bring me to the IE favorites/mMode. Perhaps there's just something wrong with my battery. Even with the small G on, this phone should not die in under 24 hours.

I was worried about my battery life when I first got my C500, but I hard reset the phone and didn't re-install SPAlarm and it seemed that SPAlarm was using all my battery....I went from killing the battery in a day, to now running for four days between charges.

AgileMessenger Battery Monitor 2.0 Beta Player ConnectedBits Weather I've been looking for a good alarm program to wake me up in the mornings...sounds like I should stay away from SPAlarm - any other recommendations?
Guest brykins Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 AgileMessenger Battery Monitor 2.0 Beta Player ConnectedBits Weather I've been looking for a good alarm program to wake me up in the mornings...sounds like I should stay away from SPAlarm - any other recommendations? Of the software you have installed, I only run BetaPlayer. I don't suppose that Agile Messenger is keeping you constantly connected to MSN/Yahoo or something via GPRS, is it? That'd explain why you always have the small "connected" G symbol. As far as a good alarm goes....I use "Alarm Set" that was mentioned on these forums a couple of weeks ago. Nice and simple way to set the built-in alarm function instead of all that menu fiddling. It works well and I have added a speed dial to it so it's only one press to de-/activate an alarm.

Thanks for the quick replies and all of the help though - I appreciate it. I'll look into Alarm Set.

Guest sixonenine619 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 I too have a 5600 and have the same problem. Im not sure how fast its killing the battery, but i usually have to charge it every night. I just did a hard reset about two days ago, so I dont think it would help to do it again. Only thing i can think of is MMS messaging. If it keeps checking, and then doesnt disconnect. If anyone knows though, id like to hear it. I only have betaplayer and EXbubble installed. On another note, turning my phone on and off, makes the small g dissapear until i do something on the net or send a MMS. The big "G" is always there, but im thinking that just means i have access to it. Anyways, i would like it to go away without having to reset my phone though.
Guest PayableOnDeath Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Do You have BlueTooth on as I have msn, AgileMessenger running for most of the day and only have the battery drop by one bar sometimes 2 if get calls n that so the only other thing that could be using up all the power that I can think of is BT

The big G, as you say, means you have access to GPRS, the little G means you are connected which shouldn't make any difference to battery life and you only get charged for what you use. The C500 in the UK comes with a menu to disconect GPRS but the 5600 doesn't. The easiest way fro you to disconnect is to go into flight mode then back to normal mode, this will get rid of the little G (at least until you reconnect) HTH
Guest tsutton Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 My bet is it's the ConnectedBits Weather that is keeping the connection open.
Guest sixonenine619 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 well mine only comes on if i open up explorer or send an MMS, but then it never goes away. I found out killing all tasks will do it thou, so no worries.
