Guest peterweg Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 i was just thinking it wouldnt be THAT hard for diy surely, i would be interested in a diy effort... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would expect thats the chips are SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Its not something you should try unless you know what you are doing look here http://www.qsl.net/n9zia/desolder.html You will have to open it to find out the part numbers, choose a desoldering solder bit head and then the resoldering paste. This gives you an idea of the steps involved http://www.piclist.com/techref/smds.htm Easier but more expensive http://www.stencilsunlimited.com/prototype_stencils.php If you are skilled at soldering and very-very carefull, I'd say you should have a 95% chance of success. Anything less and I'd say you will wreck 80% of the phones you try it on.
Guest MECX Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 hehe im an elec engineer, we have some desoldering kit at work (its like a hot air gun=very easy) i wouldent say desoldering a large surface mount by hand is easy but its not impossible (done it a few times) then again i wouldnet want anyones first try to be on a few hundred pounds worth of phone. Anyone know what RAM chips the Jam uses/can get pics of a naked Jam, if so i might give it a go/post some pics.
