I would expect thats the chips are SMT (Surface Mount Technology)

Its not something you should try unless you know what you are doing look here

http://www.qsl.net/n9zia/desolder.html

You will have to open it to find out the part numbers, choose a desoldering solder bit head and then the resoldering paste. This gives you an idea of the steps involved

Easier but more expensive

http://www.stencilsunlimited.com/prototype_stencils.php

If you are skilled at soldering and very-very carefull, I'd say you should have a 95% chance of success. Anything less and I'd say you will wreck 80% of the phones you try it on.

hehe im an elec engineer, we have some desoldering kit at work (its like a hot air gun=very easy) i wouldent say desoldering a large surface mount by hand is easy but its not impossible (done it a few times) then again i wouldnet want anyones first try to be on a few hundred pounds worth of phone.

Anyone know what RAM chips the Jam uses/can get pics of a naked Jam, if so i might give it a go/post some pics.
