Guest TheGaffer Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 The MPx220 has been on O2's internal list of Pay monthly handsets for the last 3-4 months (I work for them), although whenever I called them up they said the phone had been "indefintely delayed". Anyway, the May handset list has just come out and the MPx220 is no longer listed. Doesn't look good. I was going to order the phone SIM free but apparently there is no internet access via O2 and no support for the handset from O2 either! I don't have a contract at the moment and am tempted to move to Orange or Vodafone, where I believe you can use all of the phones features, but half price line rental is hard to give up! Oh well, I'll get a clamshell smartphone some day...

Guest Liz Posted May 6, 2005 Report Posted May 6, 2005 Oh well, I'll get a clamshell smartphone some day... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I’m on o2 and I did have problems with the settings (but then I am also the one who tried for days to set up BT – with no BT adaptor  !!!) so that doesn’t say very much...... It’s working fine now, and as for o2 support – well – what support do you want that you can’t find here? I’ve been with o2 for 6 weeks and the service – compared to orange – is rubbish anyway. I can access o2 web page and use o2 on line mail, view my account (thou that’s a joke, the way its set up) via my PC if I want to. Could probably do the same on my moby – but the site is so complicated it’s not worth the effort. Also when I last looked at Motorola web page they have a “send settings to my phone” page that includes o2 UK settings…….mine was set up by the time I found it so don’t know if it works. HTH Liz

HTH Liz <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bought my MPX220 off Ebay and flashed the 1.25 Rom onto it and use it on UK Vodafone. OK, its not o2 but I got all the info for settings off this site. Absolutely everything works for me, Exchange Activesync, MMS, SMS, other mail, camera, and most importantly.. phone calls! IMO just because the phone isn't "supported" by the networks doesnt mean it won't work. They don't know what phone you've got after all... Andy.
Guest TheGaffer Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Hmmm, thanks for the comments. Very interesting. ljames28 - it sounds like your contract is with vodafone - vodafone and orange appear to work fine with the MPx220, it's only O2 that I've heard conflicting stories about. Anyway, apart from calls, my main use for the MPx220 will be for web browsing, so I'd really appreciate it if Liz or any other O2 contract customer can confirm that you can access the following website on the phone (not on a PC via the phone), as for various reasons (long story) this is the only site I can use to access my email: http://mailreader.com/mr2/cgi-bin/nph-mr.cgi Thanks very much. BTW, I have no problem in using a phone not supported by a network, but I'm concerned that there may be a technical reason (as opposed to a quality reason) why O2 aren't supporting the MPx220. My job involves testing a network application and I see varying behaviour with different handsets all the time, so I am always cautious with handsets not supported by a network. Cheers.

Apologies for any offence.
