Guest bake71 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Just received this phone in the mail yesterday and have done nothing but try to get this POS to boot since. It was supposedly new but the box was opened...? I applied the unlock from http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ and it showed to apply perfectly, however, the phone hangs at the Windows Mobile logo screen and has never one time booted. I have tried to do a hard reset but it will not accept my selection of 0 when prompted. I really doubt the timing is the issue since in the probably 100 attempts to hard reboot I would have sucrely screwed up and got the damn thing past the screen at least once!!! I have tried more variations to get it to go with no luck at all. The phone has never done anything but freeze like this and I have not read of any others having this symptom, seems the others have been functional at some point. Is it time to send the nasty emails and pull the payment if the seller tells me to beat it? I read of another reset technique but the link that outlined it was bad so all info I have read about resetting is using the "timing" method. The bad link was from the old AT&T support website but it now redirects to Cingular(my carrier USA) and the makes no mention of support for the phones that I could find. WTF is my next move? Any ideas of something that I haven't tried? Would applying an older script be a possibility and then trying the newest one on top of that? I sent an email to the website that sold the unlock code about 8 hours ago, but have not heard anything from their support. I have tried pulling the SIM Card out and leaving in with no luck. I know the bootloader number was within the range for the unlock and I know the IMEI is correct...at least with the sticker behind the battery. The ActiveSync will not see the phone...it only acknowledges connection of an USB device, not the actual phone. So much for 5 minutes and good to go!!!!!!!! Really think I got a broke phone jammed up my ass, agreed? Thanks
Guest martin Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 It's not very common but it sounds like you ROM may be corrupted. I would try re-writing the ROM (using a ROM upgrade) although I don't know if the AT&T/Cingular ROM is freely available for the SMT5600.
Guest squall Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 if it were me i would ask for a replacement, It cant be a good sign that it doesnt work out the box if its supposed to be new!
Guest martin Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 I forgot to ask about that ;) I assumed it was a private purchase but I definitely would send it back if otherwise.
Guest bake71 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 if it were me i would ask for a replacement, It cant be a good sign that it doesnt work out the box if its supposed to be new! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was an Ebay purchase...just one of the million different people selling these phones. Not sure of the recourse that I would have. I did use Paypal so I can definitely be a pain in the ass for the seller, but I don't know if I will be able to make any claims stick permanently. Paypal is very quick from my experience to revoke a payment. Been on the receiving end of one of those scams...really opened my eyes to how one sided Paypal can operate. Just sucks because this phone not being in a sealed box tells me something is up. It would be a lot easier to think it was just crap luck if the box wasn't opened  . Not a bad deal for the seller if I am right...sell a trashed phone for the going rate and then defer any warranty claim to the manufacturer. I have been looking for a ROM update but have not seen anything for the US market. Suppose I will email the seller and see what that is going to be like. Thanks
Guest Confucious Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 So you didn't boot it up before trying to unlock it? You didn't get the EMEI number from the phone itself rather than a sticker like you're supposed to? And you wonder why it doesn't work? If a hard reset doesn't work then it looks like flashing is your only solution.

Maybe it was an APP I downloaded but I really doubt that since I've installed that APP before.. anyways it wouldn't go past the windows screen, I even emailed the seller, and he did not respond... but mine did use to work. anyways I sent it to audiovox they replaced it but I had to pay shipping and another unlocking fee.. which sucked.. I guess we really shouldn't buy from ebay... plus in Canada there is almost no smartphone, just recently Rogers Wireless now sells the 5600.. high price 3 year agreement is 299$ but still worth it I guess.. caution ebayers..

If it wouldn't get past the Windows screen wouldn't a hard reset fix it? Are you suprised the seller didn't respond if it had been working for a few months? What did you expect him to say?
