I've just bought a C500 on Ebay but it is locked into Orange. How can I get it unlocked so I can use my existing O2 pay as you go SIM card? :?:

  That's a funny one... ok, all joking aside, the imei-check.co.uk unlocker works like a charm...for £20.00 Just read all the instructions before you do it, and make sure your phone is compatible as there is one little catch...takes about 5 minutes and is permanent. I would stay away from any of the unlocker codes and things from ebay as some are only temporary and you don't know what you are getting. Either imei-check can do it, or orange can as well, but you have to have an orange sim card, regisered, and 20 pounds of credit on the card. Then takes about 2 weeks to get the code, but then you just type it into the phone and it's done...that's permenant as well. Hope this helps. (If you aren't patient, then go with imei, plus a little bonus is that imei's unlocker unlocks other parts of the rom so I have been told)

I got my code from Orange in 24 hours despite them telling me it would take 10 working days.

Did you have to pay for it? Were you out of contract?

I waited for two weeks from orange once before I got the code, and yes you have to pay £20.00. I was on pay as you go. Orange are pretty good and don't put up a fuss, as they will be making £20.00...all you do is ring them up and tell them you want your handset unlocked, and give them an imei number and wait....patiently

A lot easier to use imei-check as you can unlock in minutes and then flash with different ROMs afterwards ;)

If you pay Orange to have your phone unlocked will it stay unlocked after a ROM upgrade and things like that?

thanks

both orange AND imei-check are permanant unlockers, but I've been told that the imei unlocker will unlock other parts of the software in the phone whereas the orange one won't...plus, even if orange does it in 24 hours, imei check works in 5 minutes (unless you're like me and a bit slow. then you are looking at 10-15 minutes max). Also been told imei, will not affect your warranty, contrary to what orange cs has said.

well, for me (I'm in Canada), when my SMT 5600 broke completely and I sent it to the states, they replaced it with another phone that was locked!! Mine was Unlocked. Then I had to pay $50 cnd to unlock it! I called Audiovox, they told me to call Cingular, Cingular told me to stfu, so I told them ur mom!! and I went to that only site, which worked great. Still, how hard was it for htem to give me the code so I can input it.. they told me that Cingular no longer was selling the phone, but just recently they started cariering it again, but hey.. I couldn't wait that long!!

Bottom Line, all companies suck, they have no corporate social responsiblity, and they only try to maximize profits, of course at your expense... as u can see, all the operators r not offering updates and that equals us spending another 200 pounds or 500 candian dollars to buy another handset, and of course, the handset will suck since theres really nothing new..

Personally, I will not upgrade to C550, theres no neeed, theres no innovation once so ever... wifi? who cares.. look at the keypad.. how can u be at school, connect with wifi, and then try chat on msn messenger with that horrible keypad, it just don't work that way.. therefore I will buy a phone when a proper one comes out like that HTC Unversal that was used in the MS Presentation.. like the mPX, just these need tweaking as well, I cant wait till theres an all in one phone!! GPS, GPRS, GSM, Bluetooth, Wifi, 3G, etc etc!
