Guest snax05 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Hi, I'm going to Japan next month for around 2 weeks, and need to be contactable by mobile. I was thinking of taking my orange SPV C500, but don't want to be stung by a hugh bill when I get back, so was thinking maybe a local pay as you go sim card. but my phone is still under contract. Has any one done this and have any ideas?

You will need to get a local phone, or a 3G phone. BTW, I still go everywhere with my C500 as I cannot live without it as an organiser, games machine, music player. Sad really.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I can also confirm that you can't use GSM phones in Japan, I was there last year and found it easier to rent a phone here to take over there. The company that I used was Adam Phones, and they hire phones for Japan for £1 a day (waived if you spend more than £5 a day on calls). Obviously shop around for others, when comparing though do note that Carphone Warehouse resell Adam Phone's service, so give you the same deal.
Guest Tunney Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 3G (UMTS) phones will definately work on the Japanese network run by Vodaphone KK. They sell the same Nokia 6630 over there that they do in the UK.
