Who can unlock (not SIM) an MPX220

Greetings !

I see a ton of Motorola MPX220s on ebay that are unlocked.

Where did they get it done. I have tried every "source"

I can and in other states and nobody seems to be able

to do it. I have a Cingular phone and AT&T service.

Can someone email me with a company they know can do

this ??

I am in northern Ohio.

Please email me at [email protected].

Thanks much.

BTW - I tried to get a SIM unlock code from Cingular - no dice. My

bet is they changed their policies on May 1 and now are forcing you

to "migrate" in order to use my Cingular phone. I sent email

to the [email protected], raised a fuss at 2 different

stores and have made countless calls to customer service.

At this point once the contract is over I will NEVER do business with

Cingular again. (former) AT&T customers were much better off.

Let's see, spend $18 per line to migrate and buy new "Cingular" phones.

Yea, right ??

Thanks - Gary

I don't know what you mean by having to "migrate" over.

I don't know if this will help, but what follows is what I had to go through. . .

FIrst I mailed simunlock@, they emailed me back saying they don't deal with subsidy unlock codes.

Next I called CSR and told them I would be traveling out of the country and want to use the local sims while i'm there. They told me they need to file paper work and I most likely would get approved. Everytihng seemed find until a week passes and no one called me or email me about my subsidy unlock code.

I called CSR again to find out that the last CSR set me up with "international plan" where I am allowed to roam with cingular sims and make calls for only 5 dollars per minute (please note the sarcasm). At this point I am unsure if the CSR "pretended" to understand what I was talking about and goofs up, or did she intentinally messes up my order in hopes that I would just give up. Anyway I asked again and this CRS assured me she will process the order form to tech support and they will contact me, again, in 2-3days.

Another week passes and no code. . . This time I called them again and explain to CRS that I want the subsidy code; that I just got this phone activated 2 weeks ago; that I understand I still have 16 days to return my phone; that I will indeed return my phone within 7 days if I don't receive my code; and that my 2 other lines(with no contract) will be cancelled following the return.

. . . a few hours later Tech Support emailed me my subsidy code.

So it seems to me that Cingular generally don't want to give out subsidy code(I guess that's no surprise). I think you practically have to threathen cancellation or do major butt kissing before they give you the code.

So I guess the standard procedure for Cingular is

1. CSR fills out subsidy code request form and sends to Tech Support. The form states the reason of your request.

2. Tech Support gives you the code if your "request" was approved or if someone responsible feels that cingular would lose money from you terminating your contract.

Right now I have 3 have 2 years contract. I may just get the 4th line a new phone and wait 2 years with the other 3. So for the next 2 years I have less of a bargaining chip if I want any favor from cingular.
