Guest adkalra Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 I just purchased an I-mate Jam. I received it yesterday. I have 3 days to return it if there any problems. So I have two quick questions reguarding my Jam. 1. When on the phone I here a sort of "harddrive" type of noise. A light whiring/clicking. If anyone has a DVR unit with their TV it sounds similar to the random sounds a DVR unit makes. Is this normal? It does not interfere with conversation, but it is definately there. It is not there when I change to speaker phone, only using the piece. 2. If you "shake" your Jam, does it sound like there is anything loose inside the Jam? I took everything out of my Jam: SD Card, battery, SIM card, and it still makes a noise like something is loose inside. Thanks for you help. Quick, replies would be apprecieated as this would help me make my return deadline. Thanks, Amit
Guest nossac Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Hi, There are some threads around on different forums discussing this. I remember reading 1 review where someone took their Mini/Jam apart and found the speaker was loose which caused a similiar problem. Any weird noise cannot be good. If it was me I would be asking for a new unit that didn't make funny sounds. My Mini is nearly 6 months old with all the paint worn off the case, some nice little scratches on the screen (dispite using screen protectors) and generally has lived a very hard life and it doesn't have any weird noises.

I didn't even notice it until Mitch pointed it out. That's fine, hope someone can help with point 1.
Guest koksie Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 I also have that nosie when using the phone, but it never bothered me. You can try flashing the radio ROM to see if it makes any difference, you can find it at www.xda-developers.com. If that does not help, return it.
Guest MitchellO Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 I have to say I have never noticed any noises when talking on the phone.
Guest mobile_freak Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 Hi, I have also bought a jam (mda Compact) about a month ago and when i shake the phone it sounds like something very small is loose inside but im guessing its something around the speaker area. The problem im having is that when i squeeze the sides of the phone im getting a creaky sound. This is because the plastic seems a little loose. Does anyone know how i can fix this? maybe by tightening screws inside or something? Any help is appreciated. Mobile_freak
Guest MitchellO Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 The rattling is typically the volume slider on the side.
