Guest styreh Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Hello can i install windows mobile 5.0 on my spv c500 without any hardware changes when it comes out?
Guest nIghtorius Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Hello can i install windows mobile 5.0 on my spv c500 without any hardware changes when it comes out? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it depends on orange releasing a WM2005 ROM and to be blunt I don't think this is going to happen.. (although I loved to be proved wrong here since I also own a SPV C500) If you like a bit dangerous: You could try to install the french orange update ROM.. try searching this forum on how to do it. it will give you: * no more flickering bug (GAPI) * GPRS Class 10 instead of Class 8 (goes faster) * Windows Media Player Mobile 10.0 instead of version 9.0 ;) * No more annoying HTTP:/ when holding the ;)
Guest styreh Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 thanks for the answer but dont want to try any thing dangerous with my mobile i have already sent my mobile for repairation 2 times. but i hope it will be possible to install it directly. ;)
Guest beersoft Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 i doubt very much that there will be a free upgrade to wm5 when its released the key factors are 1) Microsoft wont give the software away for free 2) microsoft wants its licence money from HTC 3) HTC would rather licence wm5 for there new devices 4) htc want to sell more phones to orange 5) orange want htc to design more phones for them to sell 6) orange want to sell you more phones, so why give you the features for free when they can sell you a new phone with another contract its all about the money Later Owen
Guest drblow Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 You'd think it might occur to folk that something as big as being able to upgrade your phone with an entirely new operating system would be announced as news on the forum! Does anyone think that when MS release longhorn that I'll be able to upgrade my 6 year old PC for free?

Guest Zone-MR Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Apparently a Typhoon version of WM2005 does exist, and is availible to MS MVPs. So the hardware certainly supports WM2005, and if any drivers needed to be ported, this work is done. If or when it will be availble to us mere mortals is another matter.
Guest squall Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 zone this rom is not availbe via msdn. I know some mvps have been testing it, but all of them
Guest psuc41 Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 Does anyone actually know when the new Rom will be made avaliable from Orange?
Guest beersoft Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 the wm5 rom? my money is on the 3rd of never later Owen
Guest squall Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 there is an outside change that if the c550 uses the same rom as the c500 then orange and htc may decided to release an update, but i wouldnt stop breathing!
Guest Confucious Posted May 12, 2005 Report Posted May 12, 2005 my money is on the 3rd of never That is the estimated release date, but it will probably slip..... ;)

Guest Confucious Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 it's not yet officially released... and i heard that they're not going to release it publicly... It will be down to the individual operators for individual phones It might or might not be released and no one knows weather it will be released for any existing phone or will only be available for new phones but one thing is for certain, there will be no one file to download that will work on all phones!

Guest haelios Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 Does anyone know whether a ROM update will undo the SIM unlocking operation I performed on my C500?
Guest Disco Stu Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 A ROM update will not affect the SIM-lock. You will remain unlocked.
Guest Lyger Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 (edited) EDIT : as Confucious points out below, official links are always better and don't infringe the rules of this forum :) Full info can be found on the ORANGE web site.........ENJOY ;) PS THis is a FULL rom upgrade so any plugins, Home screens will be destroyed so ensure you back everything up.
