Hi guys .. maybe this is a stupid question that has been addressed before.. but when isearched i was not able to find the right thread..

my C500 has been working great till yesterday, and I was using it via Headset. After I was done, I took out the headset and locked the phone.

This morning, when I tried to use the phone again; I could not hear anything. I couldnt figure it out till I saw that my profile was stuck on Headset (even w/o the headset not being attached to the phone). I then tried to change the profile 2 ways::

1) I pushed the power button and pressed the number 5 for normal mode. This did not work.

2) I went to start -> settings -> profiles -> Normal :: that didnt work either.

I turned off the phone and turned it back on, but it only shows Headset. I took out the battery for 5 min and replaced the battery etc; but still showing the same. I am soo aggravated about this problem. I do not know why it has happend, and I cannot figure out how to sovle it. I know that thers a way of soft-reseting and soft-reseting the phone; i saw the post for hard-reset --> but i am afraid that all the contacts that i have on the phone will be gone...

I am traveling right now, so dont even have the syncd copy with me.. and i will be in hell if i loose contacts. so i am afraid to reset the phone. Can anyone.. anyone at all please let me know how to soft-reset the phone (where i dont loose any info that i ahve on the phone). Or if there is some other way to deal with this problem.. because i dont want to use the headset 24/7 .. cuz at this time i dont even hear the incoming call rings because it will only send it to headset. ..

HEEEELLLPPPPPP

Edit:  I just found a post that talked about this problem and said that I need to HARD RESET.  Can someone help me out on how to save the contacts, and then load them up once I do the Hard Reset.. when I am not on my Main System (which i sync my phone with)

You should try to introduce a tooth pick inside the jack holder and move it a little. If no result, I don't see other option than to hardreset. You may always save all your datas using Sprite Backup. (I wasn't lucky as Sprite backuped even the stuck headset but you can still try it)

Another backup option is the Orange one (Menu, Orange, Orange backup)

I never had this on my c500 (yet) but on my E200 i always used to solve the problem by rebooting the phone with the headset actually plugged in . . . then removing it after start up. . . .

if that fails hardrest (make sure you backup first - see above about orange over the air back up . . . . or just write them down on paper!)

IF that doesn't work then i suggest the problem is a physical one rather than a software one - in which case call Orange and get a replacement - as ur a newbie i bet the phone is fairly new and therefore you could get one for free. - if not you may have to pay £15

hope you get it sorted

hey .. is this a local backup?? it does into the mem card? and it saves only the data and nothing else? cuz i am not on orange network right now.. I am overseas.. in India actually..

so you think that backup will be good? the sms/phone#s/notes that i ahve saved on here ;)

I've had this "headset profile" problem twice in the last few days since reading your post - I don't think I'd ever had it before that, so I'm blaming you! ;)

Anyways, what seems to work for me is putting the headset back in *not quite all the way* and then pulling it back out. Mind you that always follows a session of jamming the bl00dy thing in there repeatedly in anger and frustration, so it could be that that clears it!

Annoying though, isn't it

I had same problem on my SP3i. Hard reset did not solve it.

Took apart the phone, the headset socket has a contact tab which switches the OS from/to headset profile. After some research I found this contact tab had plenty of 'spring pressure' but did not make the needed electrical connection.

Scratched the contact with a sharp needle to improve this and put the phone back together. All OK again! Three months old phone, seems like inferior quality to me....

Stoooop the Maaadnesss!!

Try putting the headphone in, lock then unlock the keypad, then pull the headphone out.

Works for me.

^ Didn't work for me, perhaps all of these are intermittent solutions?

My "stuff it in half-way and then pull it out" (stop sniggering at the back!) technique doesn't work every time either.

just happened to me too, ;), but got it back by turning phone off and on with headset in the changed profile to automatic, removed headset and phone was back to outdoor. hope you read this before you hard reset

I suggest you to bring it back a couple of weeks before the guarantee ends, so that you get it changed with a new (socket.) I had done this with my old first SPV Canary.

Weird they never managed to improve this since the time ;)

I just had the same problem. Took a while but fixed it by jabbing the headset in and out of the socket repeatedly. Totally unimpressed with the build quality.

8) Yeah annoying problem caused by Media Player - I use mine to Bang 1GB of tunes of my beloved SPV into the car stereo using the headphone jack...

U could try repeating the "thrust" process of ramming headphones in and out but the phone would probably appreciate as much as a frigid woman!!!

Try the same process through the Music Of Love - boot WMP - play a track - romantic tunes work better (Fly Me To the Moon etc.) - now do a bit of Luuuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvv makin (rammin the jak!) until u hear the built in speaker kick in and voila u shud have sorted the situation navigate to ur pro do ur stuff and job done u can roll over and have a deserved nap (dream of anuvver woman?)...

No Luvmaking secrets revealed 4 that u will hav 2 sort ur own situation...

gud luk

After reading all this thread, I gave ramming the jack in and out a try, but to no avail. I instead started twatting the socket-end of the phone against my knee, and much to my disbelief it went back to normal.

Hmm... Might now investigate Bluetooth headphones, if such things exist!
