Help, activesynch problem

Hi,

I've just recently purchased an MDA compact, I’m having real problems with active synch, it is randomly disconnects the phone when connected through the USB, the phone is still getting a charge and is connected through the USB cable but the active synch connection is just gone, I have to unplug the phone and plug it back in to get it to see the phone again.

It also does this every time I activate the GPRS while the phone is connected to the PC (with the USB cable), I have a couple of programs on the phone running which may use the GPRS at random to update (homescreen weather forecasts) but not sure if GPRS is to blame. It started doing this a couple of weeks ago when I was using my MPx200, I thought that a new phone would solve it but it continues regardless.

So far I have;

1. Uninstalled active synch 3.8 and reinstalled it

2 Installed active synch 4

2. Completely uninstalled the phone and reinstalled it

4. swapped USB ports and hubs

5. Checked all the connections settings on active synch and phone, all seem normal.

My suspicions are that possibly GPRS is conflicting at some point with the connection on active synch, I have XP with no software firewall (its on the router). Does anyone know what might be happening, it’s driving me round the bend!

I'd advise uninstalling the active sync program again then popping online and downloading the most upto date version of active sync.

B4 installing the most up to date version make sure u disconnect the usb cable and possible even a reboot b4 installation again.

A quick question though, you say it ramdomly disconnects. Does it disconect if you are even just exploring the file on your MDA from your PC as well?

I presume you are using your old sim card in your new phone from that statement? In which case if its trying to access gprs, it may possibly be something you have subscribed 2 unknowingly thus your phone is trying to access the net through gprs and disconnecting your active sync, or was it a prepay sim in a contract phone, which would result in a settings conflict?!?

Hi,

thanks for getting back to me, re the first piece of advice; i have active synch 4 which i believe is the most up to date version available. the phone did indeed disconnect when i was browsing the phone or transferring data, very frustrating i'm sure you will agree. I am using a new SIM and having my number ported so i think its not that. I googled the problem and found this interesting piece of advice;

http://www.bevhoward.com/ASync.htm#USB

Since trying this advice i have had a good connection until the phone connects to GPRS (i.e, when i boot up IE on the phone) then it disappears on me again. Although not a perfect solution i can live with this for now as there is not much need to have the phone connected to GPRS and the pc at the same time, i do suspect my pc/usb hub is possibly to blame on this one.

Again, cheers for the advice,

D
