Guest Raven001 Posted May 14, 2005 Report Posted May 14, 2005 im afraid its not possible afaik <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How would you? I mean, physically, there is only one place a SIM could go...
Guest Swampie Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 How would you? I mean, physically, there is only one place a SIM could go... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's lots of dual-sim adaptors out there for other phones. Essentially, each time you switch on your phone, it switches to the other SIM. A bit cumbersome I know - but useful in some situations. I've not seen any for the C500 yet though - normally they need to replace the back cover plate, so they're not universal. D
Guest mutleyboy Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 cant you use one of the ones where you cut the sim cards smaller and two fit in one normal sim sized adaptor click here for more details
Guest brykins Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 How would you? I mean, physically, there is only one place a SIM could go... Very often they consist of a "false" sim that is connected via a thin ribbon cable to a two-sim holder that is either built into a replacement battery or phone back. You sometimes find that the battery will be sub-standard, but allow you to use two sims, or the phone back will make the phone about 3mm larger to accomodate the two sims. Then each time you switch the phone on, it (somehow?) activates whichever sim was NOT active last time.
Guest celica1.8st Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 I saw one somewhere for the c500 - you simply had to go into flight mode then back to normal to switch between sims. Might have been ebay not sure??

Guest Confucious Posted May 16, 2005 Report Posted May 16, 2005 I bought one of the ones that takes 2 SIMs but it doesn't fit in the phone. The ones where you cut the SIMS down habve been arround for ages and all the phonme forums I have been on people have asked about them and some people have even said that they are going to try them but I have never seen a post from anyone who has tried one (either succesfully or not) - I'm still waiting to here a report of one so if anyone has tried one.....

Also - the sim remains the property of the mobile network, so I guess you'd be breaking the law by cutting it up anyway. Like the other poster, I've never yet seen anyone tell the story of how well it works and how easy it was to do.

It's one that looks like this: http://images.marketworks.com/hi/61/61342/mai_all.jpg The length of the ribbon to the dual holder meant that it wouldn't fit in the battery compartment, so i had to double-back the ribbon - it's not the best thing to electronic ribbons mind. As the ribbon has been double-backed the the battery pokes out further, so getting the backcover on is a royal pain in the ass. At first I could only get one side of the cover to lock into place and the other side was "bludging", but after some squeezing and some sweating the other side clicked into place. I'm not even going to attempt to remove the backcover, as i'm pretty sure it's stuck there forever. One problem i have found is that packing all that crap into the battery compartment has made the right soft key and the back button ultra-sensitive to the touch (which is better then the "always pressed" i had for a few moments, before a rejig). I guess its something i have to get used to. Switching Sim cards is as simple as switching flight mode off and on. I can however see myself using the wrong simcard at the wrong time, so i'm on the look out for an app that will alter the homescreen depending on which network i'm connected too, or place a nice big Orange or Vodafone symbol on my homescreen, perhaps with a quick network switcher aswell. Anyway, hope that helps some of you. My thanks again to Confucious
Guest Arbait Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 I want a dual-sim myself. A guy from a romanian mobile phones forum gonna have for sale, in a week or soo (knock in the table), a dual-sim, his word "digital, 7 generation kind", well, no need to turn off/on to swich beetween sims. Until then, my searches give me this link about the subject and a happy dual-sim user ;) http://dualsim.dnsalias.org/dual-sim-adapter.html

With the "splitter' esq version such as the one i have, there's no need to cut the cards, you just have to rag the whole package into the battery compartment - which is a pain in itself, but you do have come back, if you wuss out :D

I use a Krusell case, so if the cable is long enough and it can exit at the side I guess it could lie flat on the outside of the battery pack inside the case? Sounds like you'd better not disturb your setup, so don't try it for me! The network display/switcher sounds like a great idea.

I've spent all yesterday night looking into display/switcher and it looks to be possible, i've found the API calls to retrieve the operator name, the phone number (I like to have my phone number displayed on the phone screen) and a which i think will change the homescreen. I can't really guess if it will come off or not, as my .net skills are quite poor..... but i'll try ;) Edit: i have the one on the left. The middle one might fit your idea. Guest craighome Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 (edited) Right, I bought a dual sim card called the "ghost dual sim" from ebay £3.99 it was a new version in which you have to cut up both sim cards and then they fit into an adaptor the same size as a usual sim card.... this means no ribbon cables or backs that don't fit on. Literally, if your sim card fits now... this one will work too! ;) It came with adaptors and templates, showing exactly how to do it. I guess it's everyones individual risk to do this but I was sick of carrying a c500 and a nokia 6310 about. I now have Orange and EasyMobile on my Orange C500 working well. I was happy enough with the solution, the only downside was that you needed to turn off and on the mobile and endure the slow start up time of Windows Mobile 2003 to successfully switch between sim cards / networks  But..... I found the icing on the cake with the Orange C500 - switch into flight mode and back with this version of ghost dual sim and...... Hey presto, the SIM switches to the other card and mobile network. Cool :D Now... can anyone write an nice little mobile app to switch into flight mode and back called "SIMswitch" to save us a couple of keypresses. That would make a great solution even better Have fun, hope this information is useful to you .... feel free to PM or ask any questions and I'll try and answer them - i think it's a neat solution if you are prepared to take the risk cutting up your sim cards (BLUE PETER DISCLAIMER:ASK YOUR PARENTS TO CUT YOUR SIM CARDS UP AS SCISSORS CAN HURT YOU! LOL) Don't tell your mobile network though, I guess they wouldn't like it one bit Regards Craig Edited June 1, 2005 by craighome
