Hi guys I'm a newbie here got SAP1 SP2002 with I-Mate 1.50.8.6

Just being confused on the ROM(Read Only Memory) and RAM(Random Access Memory);

Does RAM points to disk space storage and ROM to memory? or the vice versa...

I'm just wondering if I got SD Card will it enhance just my disk storage or both

the disk storage and my memory too.....

Is there a way to upgrade my memory, coz I think with approx. 12mb isn't enough for good apps?

Any help and advice from you guys is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi. Welcome to the forum! ;)

This is how understand things...

Just like personal computers, phone's RAM is synonymous with main memory, the memory available to programs. From the attached picture, 57% of the total 12.6MB Random Access Memory is occupied or in use so only 43% remains free.

IPSM 82% corresponds to the phone's occupied space. So of the total 7.5MB phone SPACE, 6.17MB (82%) is occupied and only 1.33MB is free.

If you have more free RAM, there is a lesser chance for your phone to go into 'hang' states. When you open a lot of programs, you'll get lesser free RAM.

If you have a storage card, it is better to install programs to storage card to save IPSM space. Remember that there are 'growing' files inside \IPSM, those which stores information, database files like cemail.vol , mxip_initdb.vol , AppMgr folder. If you ran out of phone space, expect your device not to perform well.

Phone operating system files are part of the ROM. Having Read-Only (and System) attributes, there is nothing we can do to modify or delete system files. Those files inside root Windows folder (\Windows) are system files. Some files can be copied to the PC but not all of them. You can check your phone's ROM version by going to Settings > Programs > About. The number in 'Operator:' is regarded as the phone's 'ROM' version.

Thank you for the warm Welcome. ;)

Gee thanks ;) now I have a clear things up... so that means I must really be

putting things to my SD Card in order to balance the amount of free memory my IPSM must have, that way I won't be more to 'hang' states...

By the way, great apps you got there for the presentation of available memories, where can I get one that would work for my SAP1.

Thanks! :P

You're welcome.

I used to take screenshots of my SAP using ActiveSync Remote Display Control program. It is part of the Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys:

The one I used for the screenshots in my first post was SOTI's Pocket Controller Pro. Visit this URL for more info:

You can also use a freeware program to take screenshots: SmartSS
