Certainly looks like 4.1.1.4 - which is the latest ROM available in the UK.

On the subject of the elusive new update, another couple of e-mails to Orange on the subject have still to elicit a reply.

A phone call to customer services was met with complete ignorance.

Bearing in mind, of course that Orange customer services told me ActiveSync via Bluetooth would never work.

And we pay to keep these people in a job?

Do you work for Orange?

That is the link to the latest update on Orange's website but it is ROM 4.1.1.4 - the latest ROM (and the one everyone wants) is 4.2.1.1

It's available on new pgones but Orange obviously does not think enough of it's existing customers to make it available to us!

PS They also have ActiveSync 3.7.1 on the site when the latest full release is 3.8 and 4.0 is out in Beta

I do work for Orange UK.

Orange UK hasn't released that ROM version, or those versions of Activesync are indeed newer, but you know how Orange is about only releasing thoroughly tested/approved stuff.

You might want to re-edit your post to put a 'wink' in there after the "thoroughly tested" bit ;)

How come Orange France have released 4.2 ? Different testing strandards ?

Am I right in reading that you actually are confirming that Orange UK are aware of this version and, indeed, are testing it ?

I don't have any affiliation with Orange FR to know what their standards are, but it is normally the case that Orange NL etc will release before the UK.

Orange UK are aware of the version, but I can't say whether or not it's being tested right now. I would however suspect so :D. I don't think the C550 is too far in the horizon mind.

Seriously, that's the best laugh I've had in ages! ;) Orange UK has a proud history of releasing poorly tested products. Just think back to the release of the C500 with the GAPI issue. Not to mention the E200 with it's buzzing earpiece!!

Unfortunately, Orange UK seem to have little regard for existing customers. They obviously are aware of the ROM update (it would be fairly depressing to believe that they were NOT aware of it), and to suggest that it is still 'in testing' a month after the same ROM update has been provided to Orange France users (and is allegedly being issued on new C500's in the UK) is insulting to the intelligence of even the most primitive lifeforms.

I can't for the life of me understand what the hold up is. Especially since our forum was told a month ago that the update was imminent. You would think that someone in Orange would have caught on by now that the only effect of making an announcement like that & not following it through, is frustration for users. Which clearly is now leading to a number of people seeking out the ROM update via 'illegal' means, which surely can't be good from Oranges point of view.

It is not true that orange NL release the roms quicker than the uk , in holland we still have not had the first c500 update that was out last year , orange nl are only quicker with the release of phones into the shops eg the m500 is in the shops now and the upcoming c550 ( due in a few weeks from what i was told by an orange nl worker )

I live in the hope that Orange UK are maybe working on the TomTom v4 issue with this latest update. I for one have tried all the various releases from OrangeFR, Qtek, AudioVOX and even this "new" 4.2.1.1, and have gone back to 4.1.1.4 as I prefer to have TomTom v4 working over WMP10.

I don't think that Orange will host newer versions of Activesync than 3.7 for it's current product line.

There has been no announcement by Orange UK that a new firmware release has been launched/being launched soon. As other makers of the Orange C500 around the world have launched it already, it would make sense that Orange UK will eventually launch the same update, albeit later. The situation is the same for the M2000, that updates have been released elsewhere first.

From where I work in Orange UK, I have seen no sign of the update actually launching right now.

Well, someone from O clearly contacted Paul a month ago, as he would not have made the announcement that the update was imminent without some kind of contact from Orange UK - if that assumption is untrue then I would expect Paul to correct me. That is the announcement to which I am referring.

While of course this is not an official announcement from Orange, it's still utterly daft to do that (considering this is by far the largest smartphone community in the UK), and then not follow it up.

As you work for Orange UK, how does it make you feel to know that they are widely slated in the community for a lack of interest in their existing users? And do you not concur that the late release of updates in comparison to other parts of the world is of course going to heighten that sense of frustration for users?

The fact that this situation is repeated throughout Orange UK with the M2000 etc is not any kind of justification for it. It just shows that the company is rubbish across the spectrum.

At around a month ago I can safely say that I saw no information about launching a new update for the C500, other places in Orange may have, but I can't confirm if that's true or not. I can only apologise if it was truly someone from Orange who leaked out false information.

Couldn't agree more.

I've been a member of a few forums, purely for interest in trying to help people with problems with their phones (would have registered here sooner, but lack of free time); more specifically to Orange though I would suppose, as that is what I know most about. I enjoy helping people fix their problems; trying to help confirm things; give them knowledge on certain things where others perhaps might not be able to. I enjoy helping people, to put it simply.

I registered on this forum to try and help people, so I'd hope, that would show, that although some people make get the impression that Orange doesn't' care about it's existing customers, that at least on my part, I try to work outside the box and do as much as I can (and so do the people that I work along side). Orange has recently launched a campaign to try and focus on it's existing customers even further, so it is something that Orange is trying to improve.

I certainly do concur that it's a frustration to users, but unfortunately, there's nothing that I can do to speed along an update. Orange will be later in releasing updates as (I'm sure you're all aware) they modify the generic software.

I'm not trying to get people excited over nothing, or get anybody's hopes up, just saying what I'm aware of myself.

The fact that this situation is repeated throughout Orange UK with the M2000 etc is not any kind of justification for it.  It just shows that the company is rubbish across the spectrum.

I'm as disappointed as everyone that these updates haven't been released yet, I'm not trying to justify the delays, sorry if it seemed that way.

I hope I haven't mislead anyone, I'm just trying to be helpful.

Don't get me wrong, my frustration is aimed at Orange, not any personal members of staff. I am sure there must be people like yourself in the company that are interested in customer satisfaction, it is just a shame this is not conveyed by the actions of the company as a whole, and I am always interested to discover the feelings of Orange staff about these kind of things.

My own personal view is that if there was a direct competitor to Orange in the UK for MS based smartphones prepared to offer a good standard of service, then they would see a huge amount of people shift their networks.

And am I not right in saying that new phones are being sold with 4.2.1.1 already on them?

Does this mean you are using new users as Beta testers? ;)

I've not heard anything about new handsets being sold with new versions myself.
