Just had a scare with my data call timer..

Now ive had the phone 2 weeks...gprs for 1 1/2 weeks..Ive got no web links other than the ones that come with the phone, basically i havent used IE or messenger yet, and my data calls are nearly 14hours worth ?!?!? WTF...Ive used it for maybe 5 minutes tops..that was for registering AllExplorer and getting the small updates (Just what is RingtoneInstaller.exe anyway ???)

Ive phoned to tell them that something aint right there....now im dreading the bill....

Just thought id mention it in order to let you all know that possibly the phone doesnt disconnect from web properly...

You sure your NET CONNECTION is set to ORANGE GRPS and not WAP cos only WAP calls are counted by the hour , not GPRS!

If i were you, ill double check first and then play dumb when the bill comes ! ;)

yeah

net connection = GRPS

work = Auto

wap = orangewap

havent changed them so i assume these are right

The data calls timer DOES count GPRS calls by the second, and due to the SPV pack (£6 month, unlimited GPRS), I'd say you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Did you disconnect from GPRS after you registered those programs? Cus if you didn't it would have remained connected (idleing, not sending or recieving data so no charges to you, but would have increased the time counter).

well i thought i had disconnected..but looking at that I guess i didnt...It does seem though that most of the time a simple click on the hangup button does not end the call..i have to hold it down until the keypad locks...

anyone else have that ?

but anyway as you say...i guess as i wasnt actually downloading anything..then I shouldnt be incurring any charges...

Personally I wouldn't worry m8 GPRS as a service is always on, its a constant connection and has no dial up so length of time connected does not matter, your bill is calculated and bites sent and recieved from your handset. So provided u have only downloaded/uploaded what u say u have u have very little to worry about. U could also get "GPRS-time counter" from all-locations (cant mind how much it is) this will help u monitor ur usage better ;)

I believe your wap settings should be gprs. That way _all_ data communications a dealt with through gprs, and you shouldn't incur any additional charges over the £6/month gprs bundle. This may be why you have data calls clocked up...

NB: GPRS connections can only be ended by holding down the End call button, which also happens to be the key for lock phone, it is a know "problem"
