Guest Hawko Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 Hey, I've had my orange SPV C500 a while now, about 4 months, and have a few questions that have arisen from my day to day use, and i haven't managed find the answers. BT and IR 1. a) How do i send files via bluetooth to another device?? and do i have to make a proper connection to that device first?? ;) Can u define where the files you receive via blutooth, or via infra-red, actually get stored by default? Also, if that's possible, would you be able to set that as on the storage card? Homescreens I recently downloaded some of the excellent homescreens some of the memebers have made, but not having what i believe is the program used to make them, im a little confused. 2. a) Where do i put *.hme files to use them as a home screen?? and can this be on the storage card? 2. :P When i have it that sorted and the homescreen is running, can i still change the actual home background, like with the built it ones that come with the phone? Ringtones I want to use real sounds for my ringtone, so... 3. a) Where do i put them/can i put them on my storage card, to be able to use them? 3. ;) What's the best format to use, regarding quality and file size?? A random one i just thought of!! 4. Is there any way to change how long your phone rings before it goes off to answer phone??! or is that a service provider defined thing? Sorry it's such a massive post! but these q's are really bugging me! Anyone able to help??! ;)
Guest chucky.egg Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 1. a) How do i send files via bluetooth to another device?? and do i have to make a proper connection to that device first?? I use Smart Explorer, but AFAIK there is no easy way to do it with built-in applications. I could be wrong on that though, cos I rarely do that sort of thing ;) Can u define where the files you receive via blutooth, or via infra-red, actually get stored by default? Also, if that's possible, would you be able to set that as on the storage card? No, not AFAIK. They should go to /Storage/My Documents 2. a) Where do i put *.hme files to use them as a home screen?? and can this be on the storage card? The HME files are installers that you run, so the easiest way to use them is to copy them to /Storage/Windows/Start Menu, and you can then see them and run them from the Start Menu. After you've run them they will disappear, and depending upon the Homescreen you might have to go to Settings - Homescreen and choose the new homescreen form the list (some will automatically set themselves to be the active homescreen) 2. ;) When i have it that sorted and the homescreen is running, can i still change the actual home background, like with the built it ones that come with the phone? Yes you can change the background image by going to Settings - Homescreen and changing the Background Image field. Bear in mind that many homescreens look odd with non-standard background images I want to use real sounds for my ringtone, so... 3. a) Where do i put them/can i put them on my storage card, to be able to use them? Put them in /Storage/Application Data/Sounds 3. :P What's the best format to use, regarding quality and file size?? Personally I use WMA, I'm not sure what other formats are supported (MP3 for example isn't supported as a ringtone) 4. Is there any way to change how long your phone rings before it goes off to answer phone??! or is that a service provider defined thing? Yes there is, and yes it's an operator thing If you're on Orange dial this: **61*+447973100123**30#
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 Just to fill out chucky.egg's answer : 1. Smart Explorer is good for BT sending / receiving, but Mobiluck is very popular and very easy to use. http://www.mobiluck.com/home_en.php It also allows you to send messages and swap personal info details and all those other things that young people like to do. I don't think it allows you to save files to the storage card though. 2. 'First 48 Hours' link in my sig gives you installation instructions for the various file types, along with a whole heap of other essential information. 3. Your C500 should pick up ringtones (but not message alerts) from either the Storage card root, or in \Storage Card \My Documents. Simon Desser's definitive guide to making them here
