Guest Alex_le_brit Posted May 17, 2005 Report Posted May 17, 2005 When you use the IrDA on the phone, how does it work? Does it just send out oa series of flashes of infra red light all on the same light wavelenght, or is it varying the wavelength of the light too? My suspicion is that it's just a series of on-offs a bit like fast morse code. Am I right?
Guest u_trip Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 i think it depends, either pulses of 0's and 1's at certain clock intervals, or by frequency modulation (or combination) by the look of things. Check this website http://www.hw-server.com/docs/IrDA_standar..._protocols.html it seems to be dependent on the application. not sure what the deal with phones would be tho
Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 IrDA is such an old protocol I'm suprised anyone still uses it. It was awful when it was introduced but there was nothing else arround but why would anyone want to use it now?

As I've recently got a new phone I'm wondering about butchering my SPV and so was wondering about the posibilities of replacing the IrDA tranceiver with something else, perhaps another serial port, or perhaps a little radio tranceiver.
