GPRS Connection problems on imate jam

Hi all:

I've had my jam for a bit now and everything was going fine. Recently, I've been having connection problems with GPRS. I thought the culprit was newsbreak...but I think I've ruled that out. I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems or can offer any advice.

PRE-UPDATE:

- Jam & GPRS working fine under Cingular WAP Settings supplied by imate.

POST UPDATE:

- After a soft reset...everything is fine. I can send/receive mail. I can connect to the internet.

- After some time, or after I make receive a call, or connect to ActiveSync...I lose my GPRS. When I try to reconnect I get this error:

DIALED WAP.CINGULAR

Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again. [settings][dismiss]

- If I manually disconnect my GPRS...I get the problem immediately when trying to restart.

- I uninstalled newsbreak, thinking iut was the problem, tieing up the connection in the background...still doesnt work.

- After a soft reset...all works fine...for a short time, then KERPLUNK again....then working again later in the day or after another soft reset.

- Hard Reset did not fix the problem either. Even before installing other apps.

ONE POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

...I only have ONE other app that automatically connects to the internet...SPB Weather. I'm going to try to disable that to see what happens.

OUTCOME:

Still doesnt work. I cant find anyone to blame...other than imate and their update!

ANY IDEAS???

when you have a look at the settings does it show the name and the number, or just the name on its own? and have you got wisbar / vbar installed?

Good Point. I have done a hard reset and not installed ANYTHING since last night.

Yesterday the number was listed as wap.cingular

Today there is nothing under number and all is working fine.

What could be placing the APN in the number field?

UPDATE to my problem:

After another hard reset...I had no problems.

I installed Newsbreak....no problems.

Tonight I'll try SPB Weather....that's my next suspicion.

I had WisBar installed...but only after I had the problem. I uninstalled that because it causes the phone to not ring when a call comes in.

JFRAN: What would cause the APN name to go into the number field???

if you are using gprs, the APN is listed in the number field, if you are using dial up, an actual number is listed in that field.

As mentioned before if the number field is empty just run through the wizard and things should be fine after

But it only works correctly when there is NOTHING in the GPRS's number field. I have the problems when 'wap.cingular' is there.

And where did you mention it before? ;)

it should be in the connection settings, and the APN should be something like wap.cingular.net /com....

nah...that's not what I'm asking.

cingular is always wap.cingular or isp.cingular as the APN with no extensions.

The settings I currently have ARE Working. There is something corrupting that connection periodically. I'll get to the bottom of it. Thanks anyway.

I have the exact same problem with GPRS connection using Teltra in Australia.

Also when pressing red phone button just onece disconnects GPRS. No long press like my old XDAII.

Would appreciate some feedback/help.
