Guest Alex_le_brit Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Hi, i wanted to use the c500 on flightmodus with tomtom but the bluetooth settings switch to off when i switch to this mode. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just guessing here, but flight mode is so that you can continue to use PDA functions on an airplane. The radio is switched off so it doesn't intefere with any of the plan's controls systems. So logically as bluetooth also uses a radio system, this would be switched off so you didn't interfere and crash the plane.
Guest cubik Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 It is possible to re-activate bluetooth while in flight mode. Though I would imagine that it would still be still illegal to use while on an aircraft.
Guest pisquee Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 I was on a BA flight a few weeks ago, and they stated that bluetooth was ok to use, although wifi was not ... in the inflight mag aswell as over the pa. I was using my c500 in flight mode to listen to music - had the magazine next to me on the page that said smartphones in flight mode could be used, and then hid it in my pocket to avoid a confrontation!
Guest richard_hogg Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Noticed last week that the BMI safety announcement explicity mentions PDAs and smartphones mus be in flight mode, or have wireless functions turned off. There's probably a way to turn off the 'phone' function similar to turning off the bluetooth. Though I must admit it's beyond my skills ;)
Guest cubik Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Just been playing around with my settings; turning flight-mode on, enabling bluetooth: Accessing the Quick List now seems to say that flight mode is off... though I have confirmed it is on (radio off) by phoning from another handset. Seems the menu (c500) gets itself a little confused. Selecting Flight Mode again disables the bluetooth radio again, leaving all radio devices disabled. Hope this isn't too much of a garbled mess. :|
Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Just out of interest, why do you want it in flight mode when you're using TomTom?
Guest bluesmudge Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) Just out of interest, why do you want it in flight mode when you're using TomTom? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Possibly to stop someone ringing them when they're in the middle of going somewhere? Im flying out to the US soon (smiles to self and thinks of orlando sunshine) I was going to use the phone to listen to music and watch videos i wanna watch - but im not sure its worth the hassel trying to explain to the steward that its in flight mode - these days its all to easy to get yourself kicked off or arrested on planes. Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 these days its all to easy to get yourself kicked off or arrested on planes. A friend of a friend of mine went to Australia recently and when he got there they asked if he had a criminal record. He answered "I didn't know you stoill needed one" and they put him on the next plane home! No sense of humour these people..... ;)
Guest BawBagg Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 Hi, i wanted to use the c500 on flightmodus with tomtom but the bluetooth settings switch to off when i switch to this mode. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually, TomTom overrides the flight mode setting, and fires up bluetooth anyway. I had it on (with the phone in flight mode) once (on a quiet flight) and used TomTom to monitor speed during takeoff. ("V1, rrrrrotate!" is at 160mph on a 737!!!!) It's a bugger to maintain GPS reception on a plane - you need to be sitting at the window, and keep the receiver close to the window. My mate had a PDA with a logging application, so he was able to monitor the speed, direction and altitude of the plane during the flight. Very cool indeed. So this is still a valid question about keeping the bluetooth on during flight mode, as Paul's recently released Cameraware application has a similar logging function for our C500. How do you tweak flight mode to activate bluetooth?????
Guest spridget Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Just out of interest, why do you want it in flight mode when you're using TomTom? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because when my girlfriend uses it or someone else , i dont want the phone to be rigining!! Thanks for the reply
