Guest Griff_FFOC Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) With all the talk about the UK ROM update for the C500, when it finally is released, is this something that the user will have to update themselves, or can it be done at somewhere likes an Orange Retail shop by one of their 'trained' staff? I fancy the update, but don't want to possibly bust my phone trying. Cheers Edited May 18, 2005 by Griff_FFOC
Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) Don't know if shops would be able to do it but I did the last one myself and it was simple. If I can do it anyone can ;) Except maybe Orange Retail shop 'trained' staff......... Edited May 18, 2005 by Confucious

Guest simonbratt99 Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 one slight ikkle thing to remember, that may make you not kill yourself.... back up your data on the phone first, eh , eh, not just a pretty face ;) Its easy as hell - plug phone into computer via usb, make sure activesync is running - open the up date - making sure to read everything, and clicking next and i agree. if you have a regular orange C500, then there will be no problems . . . though it might be worth seeing if anyone else has any problems before you try it . . . just to make sure <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Guest Disco Stu Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 Yes. If you mean application unlocking. ;)
Guest Confucious Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 (edited) I don't remember eben having to app unlock mine again after applying 4.1.1.4 - but then I do have a memory like sieve so I could be wrong! Edited May 18, 2005 by Confucious
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 sounds easy enough then. And I gather a hard reset (or using the 'Clear Storage' option if it's there) after installing the new ROM would simply restore it with a factory default copy of the new rom.
Guest Disco Stu Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 That's correct. You can't remove the ROM with a hard reset. @ Confucious : you may be right but it sounds unlikely (?) Look - you forgot how to spell 'even' ! ;)

Or are you asking if a hardrest or clear storage will take the new ROM off and replace it with the original your phone came with? the answer to this is also no, you need a special tool to do this - but theres no reason why you want to do that anyway. . . . is there did i get the meaning of your question right? if not re-phrase it and i'll help again
Guest Griff_FFOC Posted May 19, 2005 Report Posted May 19, 2005 I meant the latter part of your answer. I guess I was asking; If sometime after upgrading it I did a "clear storage" (or hard reset), would it simply do as it does now, and wipe off any changes made since the rom update, and go back to a clean phone with the updated ROM and no problems. Cheers

Cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> im afraid it won't - you'll need to IMEI Unlock on the phone BEFORE you update it to the new ROM, to be able to install the old ROM. But seriously there is no reason why you would need to do that - the changes aren't SO diffrent in the new ROM that you can notice - and Windows media player is a good thing. If you're worried about it causing problems you need not - Orange would have knocked all the bugs out before they release it. ;) Once installed clear storage and Hard reset will that the same functions as it does now, it Will clear everything off as usual it just won't remove the new ROM. I think the key is to remember the ROM isn't a piece of software you're installing - its actually hardwired into the phone, kind of like the bios on your PC. IF the ROM comes out we'll help you through it if you decide to up grade. ;)
