Guest PPCPassion Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 First of all, I would like to thank the forum members for their help. I have learned a lot about SP just by reading the posts. I just got Audiovox SMT 5600 SP but still use my AXIM x50v. There are few small features that I use the most but are missing on SP (atleast I can’t find it): 1.Close button “X” included in Battery Pack Pro for PPC actually closes the application instead of minimizing it. How come we can’t have the same feature on SP e.g. when I select Done, it should actually closes the program? If this utility exists, please point me in the right direction. I have come across various third party Task managers which allows me to close one or all the programs. We won’t need this extra step if using the “Done” actually closes the program. 2.Second feature I use on pocket PC is to adjust the amount of RAM for running the programs and for storage. So far, I have not seen any program/hack which allows me to adjust Memory: Storage ratio. 3. I also use a great Tweak2k2 program on pocket PC. One of the best features/hack is to move “some dll” files to storage, hence freeing more memory to run the programs. Same program for Tweaks2k2 for SP does not have this feature. I did contact both Omegaone( for BPP)and Frank G (Tweaks2k), both said they will try to incorporate the respective features in the future. Since there are so many great developers/programmers/utility writers posting on this forum and helping newbies like me, I thought of asking their advice. I do have approx 9MB to run the programs which is kinda normal for this device. I usually don’t come across out of memory warnings but still, it would be nice to have these add’l features, after all both OS are by Microsoft and if I read it correctly, Mr Gates is trying to create “universal” platform for Windows Mobile devices in new OS such as WM 5. Thanks again for all your help.

The OS on the phone is designed that when you stop using an app it sits in the background without using any system resources. (this is how it's supposed to work) As for the 'X' button as there is not a touchscreen it would be a bit hard to implement that's why a lot of apps have an exit option in their menu, for those that don't see the sentence above. You can manually end programs with Task Manager, I personally use Task Manager from www.binarys.com 2.Second feature I use on pocket PC is to adjust the amount of RAM for running the programs and for storage. The phone handles it's memory in a completely different way to a ppc and so you can not adjust the memory allocation. Simply put you should install as many applications to the storage card as possible. Basically you should not compare a ppc to a smartphone they are compleely different in the way they work. Guest PPCPassion Posted May 18, 2005 Report Posted May 18, 2005 . Basically you should not compare a ppc to a smartphone they are compleely different in the way they work. Moved to Help and Advice <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I appreciate the answer. I do understand both devices are different. However, this difference is shrinking rapidly. we no longer use SP for contacts and make phone calls only. Same thing goes for PPC. What I am merely asking is my wish list to make smartphone more productive. Howecer, I did learn something new from your ansewer that unlike PPC, any minimized program on Sp is not hogging the system resources. I did not know that. Thanks
