This is being discussed elsewhere on the forum, but its pretty unlikely, it would require the networks to release an update which they wont want to do as they can get you to buy a new phone which has the new os

still interesting article. i wonder who adam is?

Ye, there's nothing in it for the networks so we'll never see a released update. As it seems a ROM exists for the htc (typhoon) I'm sure it's just a matter of time before it finds its way onto the internet

There is no technical reason why you wouldn't. The Typhoon (and all of the various names it has been rebranded as) is fully capable of running WM 5 without any difficulty, unlike the various motorolas (the 220 you can get to run it, but you need to keep an SD card in the phone at all times just to make sure it has enough space, and it is scary slow).

However, carriers love to force their customers to buy new phones, because most customers will sign new contracts to get a discount. It really isn't in their best interest to release an update; making customers happy has never been their plan (bitter, me, never).

So, I guess the complete answer is, you can get it to run WM 5 (and it runs WM 5 rather well), but you are going to have to do so without the help of your carrier.

Is there any way you could buy a ROM from Microsoft, instead of waiting for Orange to release it? Like you can now buy XP Windows Media Center Edition, even though it's only supposed to come pre-installed on systems...

we are moving that way, but not any time soon

shame really cos its like a pcket pc and you can update a rom, so basically they are rendering the phone outdated, you can upgrade a pc and pocket pc. they should just sell a none upgradable unit in that case instead of waving candy under a babys nose and laughing.

However even with PPC whether an update is released or not is still down to the OEM, people like HP and Dell are just a little more keen to provide it than Orange seem to be...

I wonder if people would pay for an updated ROM, so that instead of taking out a new contract to get a new phone, you take out a new contract and get a new ROM (but obviously cheaper than paying for a new phone, or there wouldn't be any point at all)

Hi all...

Well the answer is on the p2p network... But is anybody brave enough to flash the phone and break the warranty with illegal fw? I am not... ;) and beside that I am just totally happy and I feel better with my official firmwares...

lol - also remember guys, WM 2003 SE is not that bad, really ! And I wont flash it unless I'm 100% sure everything will be ok - therefore I wouldn't get it from a P2P, well maybe! lol - but my phone broke once to malacious software so I dont wanna risk nothin again. Besides, C500 doesn't have hardware that magneto supports so why install it?
