Here's my problem, which has worked fine just two days ago:

I can activesync via WiFi fine, if my WiFi connection points to "work". However, when it does I can't surf the web anymore. My XdaIIs is then desperately trying to establish a modem connection - although the "work" connection is set to connect to "The Internet".

If I then tediously switch my WiFi connection to "The Internet" (in settings - connections - connections - WLAN - tools - HMPF!), I can surf the internet, but Activesync doen't connect anymore.

This is driving me bananas! And it all worked fine with just one setting, until I had to do a hard reset. I'd like a configuration on which I can do both at all times, without ever having to change.

Can anybody help? Why do we have "Work" and "The Internet" anyway?

Equipment involved:

1.) Xda IIs on O2 contract

2.) Netgear ADSL modem/router

3.) Windows XP PC with Activesync 3.8

It exists so businesses can have a VPN for mail etc, but the phone can still make a non-VPN connection. I think it's a throwback from early days of PPC.

ActiveSync only works via "work", so I have everything set on "work". Go to Settings/Connections/Connections, then advanced, then "dailing rules".

I have my m2000's settings for my home and office wifi access points set to "connects to internet". This lets me sync with a pc on the lan and surf via the local gateway ok in both locations. I've never needed to use the "work" setting.

Hi fraser,

that's magic, thanks for the tip. On "work", I can now activesync via WiFi, check my emails and surf the net. Perfect at home!

Now... when I want to connect via dial-up or GPRS, what do I need to use in Dialling Rules: Home, Mobile or Work? And in my email account settings (accounts/accounts/myemail/next/next/next/options), what does my connection need to point to: "My Work Network" or "Work"? I don't quite understand the difference...

Sorry for not replying sooner by the way!
