C500 stuck on sunset screen!

I have a SPV C500 which froze whilst switched on.I removed the battery, now it only boots up as far as the Orange 'sunset' bootup screen and sticks (fully lit).

I can get to the hard reset screen and also the canary 3 colours screen. Active sync doesnt work but the 3 colour canary screen does display USB when connected.Canary screen says Typhoon IPL 1.00,SPL 1.00.0006, what do those numbers mean?

How can I fix the without losing the data on the phone? Is there a way? Maybe by connecting the phone to the PC or something? Can I update the ROM in this state? I guess this would still wipe the phone data though. A hard reset will probably make the phone function again but will wipe the data I think. There must be some way of accessing the data.

Unfortunately the only option you have is to do a hard reset which will wipe the data on the phone.
