i can't get GPRS and MMS to work on my prepaid account on my new unlocked SMT5600 from ATT. the data is activated on my profile and it used to work under my old T237, i read lots of post on the Help and advices section but still can't get it to work. here are my setting:

Fido GPRS profile-

connect to: the internet

APN: internet.fido.ca

USR:fido

PWD:fido

DNS:blank

IP: Blank

Fido WAP proxy-

connect from:the internet

connect to: WAP

WAP.FIDO.CA

type: wap

USR:fido

PWD:fido

MMS settings-

Gateway Address: 205.151.11.13

MMSC URL: mms.fido.ca

MMSC Port Number: 9201

1) is there someone here using Fido as a carrier with prepaid having sucessfully configuring GPRS ? on the Rogers network it is anothers story...

2) after transfering the DNS zone fido.ca from their servers, i realised that the entry "internet.fido.ca" is innexisting. but the tech support tells me it's normal ?!?!

3) some CSR told me that Fido block GPRS acces sometime thru EIMI acl's

could this be true or have i been bullshitted ?

These configs are all over the web and believed to be accurate, still i can't connect to the internet via IE, nor MSN and send MMS. the dial-up account when setted error with "unable to place call" but that is another problem that i will deal with later... for now i really need to get the GPRS working . Someone please help !

thanks for your time

here are my settings, I'm also on the fido network in Toronto - where r u at?

ip. 205.151.011.011:9201

dns primary

204.92.15.211

secondary

204.92.15.212

the rest I think you have. Careful tho, the costs are krazy, I went on msn messenger maybe 5 times sent only 1 instant message the entire time, went to msn.com ONE time to see how it is, and I got charged 15$, thats krazy

Also, I think u only put the IP and leave secondary and dns blank, I'm really not sure, try around the order. I did get it work but it was a while ago. now I dont bother with gprs since its far to expensive. I guess they dont take into account that smartphones download the entire webpage, not like the cheesy phones they have here where u only download text (which is why its so cheap)

tried theses setting as well without any luck, proxy type defined as WAP or HTTP made no differences either. wonder how can people use internet.fido.ca for the GPRS even if the host does not resolve to an IP... anyway here is the dirt

After spending a sunday afternoon with many fido customer rep on the phone, it turned out that fido changed their politics and only allow GPRS on monthly account, all a user can get on prepaid is WAP acces. nothing else, even if they told me the GPRS feature was enable on my account... after 3 CSR the fourth one told me the truth, no GPRS on prepaid that is.

On another note, my GPRS setting turned out to be fine, i popped in my SMT the sim of my friend who is on monthly and then everything suddently started working. i then assume the EIMI acl on acces was fairytales...

thanks for the advice, hope this post will help anyone save time on fido prepaid setup.
