Guest DrEv1l666 Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Hi All, I am fed up of mangling my ears with the stock headphones that come with the SPV c500. I want to use my own headphones so is there a jack converter from a "normal" 3.5 headphone jack to the dinky smartphone jack plug? Cheers Simon.

Guest richard_hogg Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Or, try your local electronics store like maplin.
Guest celica1.8st Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 Or, try your local electronics store like maplin. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maplin don't do one ;) I tried the other week, they only sell a standard one (which I think has two black lines on the metal bit) The c500 needs one with 3 black lines on it. If you settle for the one with two lines on then it will work but won't be quite - I think you get the right audio correctly but you get both right and left in the left or the other way round. Expansys offer one for around £8 or £9 seemed to expensive for me so I settled for the cheap one from Maplin - but you can sort of notice that something isn't quite right

The third stripe on the original C500 headphones is for the handsfree button on the headphones and for carrying the microphone signal. All you need is a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone adaptor. They are pretty common and usually sold as iPaq adaptors. Mine cost £3 delivered off eBay. Using such an adaptor will give you full stereo sound as loud as the phone can belt it out ;) Using such an adaptor will invalidate the handsfree features. Edited May 28, 2005 by DJBenson
Guest Restorer Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Maplin don't do one ;) Oh yes they do - 99p. Got mine last week. Check out the website - it will tell you how many your local store has in stock.
Guest hicks Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Yep, mine cost 99p from the local Maplins too, works just fine. Amazing how much of a difference a pair of semi decent headphones makes compared to the crappy ones that came with it ;)

BUt I'm sure it isn't quite right - If you have a look through Basso's posts on the tzzzt noise you will find some technical info on the problem with using a cheap connector. It's something to do with the positioning of the third line (the one for the handsfree button) It shorts out one of the other bits or something  Don't get me wrong it does the job ;)
