Guest GOODRIDDNZ Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 First I would like to say hello to everyone. I am new to this board, and I am simply amazed at the information and how helpful you all are here. And that is exactley what I am looking for. I have a C500 and I have not installed anything on the phone and I am getting a low memory alert. ;) Now I purchased a 512 miniSD and installed it and some progs on the card and now my memory is even worse. Here is a look at my phones current memory: Memory Information Total memory : 23.08 MB Storage memory : 1.46 MB Used : 585.15 KB Free : 906.85 KB Program Memory ( MY MEMORY PROBLEM): 21.62 MB Used : 13.97 MB Free : 7.65 MB Start with only 9.0 ?free….why so low??? Flash Information: Storage (Flash) : 27.98 MB Used : 4.54 MB Free : 23.45 MB Storage Card: 483.56 MB Used : 44.38 MB Free : 439.19 MB Thank you for any help or information to fix my problem. ;)
Guest squall Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 that looks about right, remember even with a sd card in, the os and rom are stored in the phones memory
Guest GOODRIDDNZ Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 (edited) that looks about right, remember even with a sd card in, the os and rom are stored in the phones memory <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the reply. I am a newbie for reason, so bare with me...hehe So out of the box the phone will only have 9 MB of free program memory? I am starting to have regrets if this is true. Is there a way to adjust the prog memory to used less and use the flash memory? Heck I have 23 MB of that. Edited May 23, 2005 by GOODRIDDNZ
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 (edited) the program memory is like RAM in a PC, don't worry about it, you can store as many programs on your C500 as will fit in your storage memory- you just can't run them all at once. edit- just to clarify.. i could install 80GB worth of programs on my PC (like Storage on the phone), but my PC only has 512mb of RAM, so I could only run ~400mb of programs at once (this is like the program memory on the phone). There are various programs available that free up extra memory on the phone, but they are pretty pointless since 10mb is enough to run a good few programs at once, for me at least. Is this normal and should I just ignore it? It just doesn't seem right.
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 ahh.. I see, you need to run the task manager (start>accesories>task manager) and then go to menu and select close all programs. that should solve it.

I was only getting 9 MB available to begin with. :?:

And that is with nothing running. So basically I am doing some unnecessary worrying? I just run a small prog - smartphone tetris and just recieved the low memory warning. Thanks again MT for your help Edited May 23, 2005 by GOODRIDDNZ
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 (edited) Yeah, don't worry about it. If you're really that concerned, restarting the phone recovers leaked memory and you should get about 10mb free. edit (to match your edit)- so you're saying that you close everything with the Task Manager, then open tetris and get a low memory warning? Are you sure you're closing everything? If what you say is right then you either have a really memory intensive version of tetris, or your phone is fux0red.... Edited May 23, 2005 by magical_trevor
Guest GOODRIDDNZ Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Yeah, don't worry about it. If you're really that concerned, restarting the phone recovers leaked memory and you should get about 10mb free. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not a bad idea. I just closed all apps and ran smartpong and the darn ball freezes and the sounds continue. Its acting like its really bogged down and the prog won't run correctly. I'll start playing fine for about 3 secs, then it'll freeze, except for the sound, then it will continue again for another 3 secs and so on. ;)
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 After you've closed all apps, how much memory do you have? Then open up an app, and go back to task manager and see how much memory you have free... then tell us... If you're phone can't handle smartpong on it's own, then it sounds like there is something wrong with it....
Guest GOODRIDDNZ Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 your phone is fux0red.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it's fux0red  I'm calling Audiovox Thanks again
Guest Confucious Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 (edited) Sounds more like a problem with smartpong than the phone. Even when I reboot I don't get more than about 7.5Mb free and I've never had a problem. Edited May 24, 2005 by Confucious
Guest magical_trevor Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 He says it happens with Tetris as well though...
Guest GOODRIDDNZ Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 (edited) He says it happens with Tetris as well though... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, it seems like I loaded a bugged prog and have to hard boot the phone without the miniSD. Its stored in the phone mem somewhere...... Sure enough! I'm at 10.0 MB...which is 1 MB more than what the phone showed when I first turned it one when I first got it!.....now to figure out what prog it is, I will be good to go. Thanks again for your help. ;) Edited May 24, 2005 by GOODRIDDNZ
