Bluetooth Handsfree Re-Connection Problem

Does anyone experience problems using a Smartphone to connect via Bluetooth with a car kit or hands-free device?

Problem: Cannot get the mpx220 to automatically re-establish the Bluetooth pair of a car kit device after turning off the ignition of the car and turning the ignition back on.

Hardware: Mpx220 w/Mobile 2003 SE (Build 15101.1.3.2) and Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth car kit. Seems to be reproducable with all Smartphone devices.

Troubleshooting:

Feature appears to be isolated to the Smart Phone OS as the carkit works fine on devices.

Can consistently get the pair connected by:

a)Removing the Bluetooth pair on the Phone side

b)Turning on car ignition

c)Phone gets prompted that carkit is trying to connect….—go through setting up pair on phone side... enter pin, etc.

d)When turning off ignition, delete the Bluetooth pair from the phone so that steps 2-4 can be repeated again.

After performing a hardware reset on the mpx220 and loosing all my customized phone settings, I am now able to get the phone connected by:

a)Turning on car ignition

b)Within smartphone, going start>settings>Bluetooth>menu>Devices>Highlight Carkit Device> menu>Set as Hands-Free -- This has to be performed each time the car ignition is turned on to get the two devices connected.

c)The car kit speaker will then announce that the Phone is now connected.

From the second solution, it almost appears that the Mpx220 “forgets” that this Bluetooth pair is a Hands-free device and needs to be reminded upon each connection.

Preferred Solution: Have the Mpx220 automatically connect with the carkit when the ignition of the car is turned on. --Is there a registry setting that can make this happen? Or maybe there is something else that I should be doing to make this work correctly?

Alternative Solution: Configure a “hotkey” or macro that can perform the connection technique listed above automatically with a press of a button… I can then figure out how to activate this macro with a voice command to perform the function.

Am also interested in performing other steps to further diagnose this problem. Let me know if there is anything else I can try.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dude, I am SO having the SAME problems. I am at my wits end; I am thinking about returning this stupid thing.

I am thinking about getting a headset or figuring out a way to use the headset plug. Heck, the MPX220 has just as good voice recognition as the IHF1000 if not better.

Have you found a solution?

I just purchased the T-mobile SDA phone about a month ago, which has Windows Mobile 5. Finding that bluetooth operation is much better with the IHF1000 car kit. Still have some problems, but am at least able to deal with it.

The car kit now automatically connects with my phone when activated and I am able to dial out with no problems.

However, when receiving a call, if I use the carkit to answer, the call gets automatically disconnected. Yet, if I answer the call through the phone, it works flawless.

Also, with the few times I have used the motorola IHF1000 car kit and the SDA phone, the call quality appears to be much better over bluetooth. Occasionally I find some flaws, but overall, it works much better than the mpx220.
