Hi,

Im adding a page to my website to keep all the coolest stuff about smartphones.

Anything from the best smartphone websites, games, apps, forums, news, hardware, ebooks, downloads, etc.

So its all in one place for new people. www.teachmepc.org then click Smartphone Zone(added. on the left menu)

Take a look, if theres something missing let me know, from bestest EVER smartphone site or free game, app or just something thats a MUST KNOW about for any smartphone users, but make sure you gimmie a link too.

Like if you dont know about Modaco when you own a smartphone, you may as well use your phone with a sock over it.

Let me know your thoughts or possible additions to [email protected] or via the website.

Hope this was ok to put this here.

Simon

Good , bad , suggestions.... or did it plain just not work.

Would love any extra cool data to add to that page

(also other comments on the website generally are welcome)

thanks again

Okay....I'll bite ;-)

First thing - it took me a while to actually see the Smart Phone link.

Then when I get to it - all I find is a load of links to other sites which all load in a frame on your site.

(a) most of these sites I already have in my favourites

(;) surely one of the most important things with a site like this is that it's easily viewable on a smartphone/pocketpc. I didn't actually try it, but from what I can see straight away (frames, fixed width design, etc) it's not going to be useable on a small screen.

Overall - nice idea but needs some more thought as to who's actually going to want to use it and what they will use it for.

ah nice reply cheers,

The site is designed to just be more about links than content as most stuff is on the internet already. but most people in my experience cant find stuff.

Even me, i get to hear of some cool sites and am always saying to people "wow have you seen this yet" so thats the reason for the site anyway

The link to the smartphone page.. well...i think i said in the post about the link being on the left hand side and there in alphbetical order, hmm see what others think.

The frames and space point..im sure you didnt notice or read the help bit (dont blame you, i dont usually) but .... the red n green button at the top/middle turns off the side menu for when you have your site, also it says you can open the selected site in a new window by right clicking a link and select new window. hopefully this sorts out that bit.

You have them in yor fav's already...great... your well up to speed. lots of people arnt and its those im trying to help, or even people can use it as a sort of travelling favs if there at another PC. Its people like you who can maybe supply the extra info for the site, the BEST bits ive missed.

Who's going to use it? to be fair the site was up and running from Jan 05 and i literally added a smartphone page yesterday, so its really a small part of the site. Not a dedicated smartphone site.

admittidly frames....prolly wouldnt use them again must say.

thanks again for the effort in replying

Am I the only one that thinks "we" (the Smartphone users) don't need another website? especially one that just links to other sites.

Somebody started a "tweaks" website a while back, and AFAIK it just died a slow death.

If you want to help the community (which is a great principal) why not offer your services to Modaco (or whatever your favourite existing Smartphone community is) and help to develop the "Newbie assistance" side of things, which seems to be what your site is aimed at.

cheers chucky.

is there a place/site that links all other cool sites/software together?

if (and i did at some point) was starting into the world of smartphone, id appreciate a page of 'cool' links, save wasting hours of searching ad ridden rubbish, and maybe never stumbling across classics like modaco.

Also its very much a 'work in progress' page. be nice to add lots more, if suggestions arise, or i find more.

maybe its just me i dunnno....

Tell you something Simon - about nine years ago I ran a similar thing for the Psion 5 (I had it on AOL and it was members.aol.com/p5ion or something similar) and it even got into the back pages of Psion User as a recommended web site. I listed hints and tips, other sites and a couple of hundred of the best (in my opinion) bits of software and where to find them.

Bloody rod I made there for my own back! The maintenance was horrendous - checking links each month and filtering all the new stuff. The guilt I felt when I moved away from Psion machines, closed the AOL account and left the site still haunts me to this day.

Even now, I run www.emptyworld.info, getting around 200 visitors each day and probbaly ten - twenty emails with suggestions of books to add, films to see, etc. I just can't keep up with it all!

Hope you have plenty of time to devote to this, or a way of making some money out of it so it's worthwhile ;-)

brykins,

i can see what your saying, maybe it will, but things dont have to be that bad. ie i have a bit of software that you run on your site, which checks for any dead links, takes a few seconds, and hopefully if the sites i choose to have on there are of any class, (modaco) it wont die too soon.

it takes me seconds to add links (ok a few more seconds to check out the site/link/ whateva).

And i love investigating new cool stuff so, its as much a hobby this site as anything else. Call me crazy i know.

cheers for the note.

(oh and i had a psion 5 , didnt know your site unfortunately)

I dunno really, but I tend to agree with chucky. It's quite a good idea for a newcomer to smartphone, but I just typed 'smartphone' into google, and the first site on the list was modaco! And once a smartphone user finds modaco then what else is there to know!! ;)

It may appeal to a few folk, you never know.

...whats google? ;)

all points taken. ok , hands up, its as much for me to be able to go to one site and all my favourites are there (not just smartphone).

Even in Modaco (which is ledgendary) to find umm say best free smartphone games, you have to find the forum, search for the posts for 'free' then find one, no find 10 with different ideas in each one. call me lazy but one page with that plus all the other fav links is gotta be handy.

si...

But that means that you'll have to keep reviewing Modaco and picking out the Free games (and countless other topics too presumably) and linking to them from your site.

Why not start a thread (maybe the Moda can lock it for your use only) and compile your list inside Modaco, and then just link to your thread from your site.

That way you don't need to change your site every time, and there's also a central place on Modaco where newbies can find this info...?

chuk...

changing my site, or changing a moda posting= the same time taken, so no different really. + im trying to build up my site with everything i use, so one place is better than two+. to look at. (for me, being utterly selfish).
